Keno is almost 5 mos old now and weighs close to 50 lbs already..we have a Jack Russell who is a yr old and only weighs about 15 lbs...Keno and Daisy play kind of rough (chewing on eachother, chasing, jumping, etc)...lately Keno has gotten a little rougher with Daisy and seeing him like that has really got me thinking about what it's going to be like when he's 80 lbs and she's still 15 lbs...I worry that he might hurt her...Daisy is fiesty and she handles Keno pretty well for the most part, but he has stepped on her a few times and made her yelp..I can only imagine what that's going to feel like when he's full grown!
If you have a smaller dog in your home with your boxer has your boxer ever gotten too rough with your little one and if so, how do you handle it? (what do you do to keep them from playing so rough?)

Austin's Mom

Austin used to play rough with his friend Bart... (now at the bridge) Austin is 95 pounds and Bart was around 45. He actually body slammed him and sent him flying a couple of times. I know he wasn't trying to hurt him, tho. He just doesn't realize his strength.

In her good years Dakota was 62lbs and my minpin Riley was 15. On a rare occassion she forgot how little he was and he did yelp a little. Riley has gotten stepped on too, but she backed off or he just quit playing. Overall I would have to say that Dakota was pretty gentle with him though. THey used to play tug of war and she would lie on the floor on her side or back and just let him tug her around inch by inch all over the living room. Too cute to watch.

 too funny!!! Reminds me of when Keno will grab ahold of Daisy's tail and pull her around by it...it's so funny to see & she doesn't even care that he's doing it ..LOL!
We think he bites her tail and pulls her around by it because he's jealous that she HAS a tail and he doesn't...haha ! ;)

Sorry that Austin lost his friend Bart :(

I know that Keno doesn't mean to do anything to hurt Daisy..like you said, I'm sure he just doesn't realize how much strength he has...I'm not even sure that Keno realizes that Daisy is even smaller than him (except for when Daisy walks underneath him to get to something he has..lol ;) )

Our male, Captain is a rough player. We have a Basenji, Paprika, he loves to role in the grass. She doesn't take anything off of him though. If he gets too rough she lets him know and then they are back to running like crazey. Wish my camera was fast enough to get them. Suzie has never been too rough. She is more of a couch potato, I guess id I had that many babies in my belly I would be too. Suzie gets the couch and Paprika gets the bed on the floor. Captain usually ends up somewhere in between so no one gets jealous but we all know his heart is with Suzie. Lately he just lays there and looks sooo sad as if he knows her attention will be else where soon. Little does he know that he will be a daddy like she will be a mommy.

Daisy Adjusts or the size of dog

My perfect, beautiful, 70 lbs, brindle boxer plays very rough with all dogs but seems to adjust to size of each dog perfectly.

At the park we frequent most often, Daisy's favourite playmate is a very large Shepard. Daisy favourite trick is to dive underneath him, standing up quickly flipping him over, she than jumps on top and gives him a kiss, than runs for her life. They repeat very similar variations of this game over and over again when ever they meet.

At home, my wife has two toy poodles weighing in at 7lbs and 9lbs. Again, Daisy plays very rough when them while staying gentle enough so no one ever gets hurt. They run and chase each other around the yard and house, Daisy will jump on the bed with one of them in pursuit, flip on her back allowing the toy poodles to jump on her belly. Daisy gentle mouths the poodles in play and the poodles return favour by bitting her jowls and litterally swinging from the ground.

I should mention that I do stay clear of strangers at the parks with small dogs, they usually wouldn't appreciate Daisy's zest for life! LOL.

Storms best bud is Cooper who is much smaller. They play rough but Cooper has tricks he pulls out. For example, biting her tongue! or reaching through and grabbing her opposite leg and dropping her to the ground! Its such a laugh. Cooper will yelp sometimes too but I think its more a warning to Storm that she is getting to rough rather than he is hurt. If you look in my gallary you will see the pics of them playing - and the pic of Storm with Cooper pinned to the ground! We also use the command 'play nice' which applies to both of them! :)

Hi. Your house sounds just like my house! Joe weighs in somewhere around the 68 pound mark. Scampy, our Boston Terrier weighs in at 14 pounds. They get along wonderfully most of the time. However lately I've noticed that Joe has been getting a little too rough for Scampy.
I basically tell Joe "easy" and sometimes it actually works! Sometimes I just have to remove Scampy from the situation. I was actually wondering if I got another Boxer for Joey to play rough with.....would that help Scampy?? Then I thought, what if both Boxers decide to gang up on poor Scampy???? Yikes! I hope things get better for your JR!!
Cheryl :)
