I'm sorry you and your dog had to experience this. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. My dog has been attacked by another dog and I'm glad I had something to stop the other dog BUT........that was at a public park where dogs don't congrigate. A dog park is exactly that a dog park! We have all read about people who don't watch their dogs at these parks and we're always cussing the people that don't watch their dogs. Not that I'm saying you were not watching your dog you stated that you were on your way over there to correct the situation. I've posted b4 about what people do to protect themselves on walks and I now carry a aluminum bat. If you kicked my dog unprovoked and the only time I'd say it's ok is if he literally was attacking your dog then by all means get him off with any means neccessary because I've been in that situation where my dog is getting mauled and it's SCARY. But my point is the bat goes EVERYWHERE Lieutenant and I go togehter. The day someone kicked Lieutenant unprovoked or for 'BARKING' in a bark park well lets just say that bat helps protect me from dogs and ignorant people alike. I'd a clacked that dude upside his damn ankle with a bat and the situation would have gotten a lot uglier. You can't walk you can't kick a dog man!

I don't know about your dog park, but mine has incident report papers, so that when an incident happens you fill it out and turn it in to the board. I can't believe that guy did that. he's a piece of crap! I would've beateb him up I don't care how big he was. your poor baby! I hope he doesn't get traumatized by this and not want to go to the park.

One more thing, if he kicks stranger's dogs in a dog park, how is he treating his own dogs at home?! It's absolutely ridiculous.

Hello again everyone,

Thank you everybody for the overwhelming response to my post. It means so much to hear everyone's opinion and support. I just wanted to let everyone know that Mateus is indeed ok. He honestly didn’t seem phased at all, but what I was most upset at was the fact that he had to be kicked by a human. He is so trusting and loving, that must have sunk in somewhere that he was being harmed! We have been to the park since and I have heard that there has been three incidents with this same man! I spoke with the head of the humane society yesterday as there is no formal complaint process established for the park that I have heard of (it is a new park and the first and only one in Regina) and she was horrified to hear the story. No one has been able to get a plate number or anything, but let me tell you that if he is to return to the park on my watch, I will be checking that out. It is unacceptable! I am still fuming about it and looking back I am surprised that I maintained a level head (well full of foul language but still relatively level). I think the only reason that my boyfriend didn’t kill this guy is because he didn’t see the incident. He did invite the guy to come over and try kicking him, but he didn’t seem to interested. Mmmm, wonder why!

Since I've had both Copper and Sherlock hit and kicked by other dog owner at dog parks (2 separate incidences, 2 different dog parks) that it why I no longer go. It's the owners, not the dogs, that scare me.

That is so true!! People are most definitely the ones who’s reactions I am worried about! Dogs will be dogs and dog parks are for DOGS. It is our responsibility to have some control over our precious pups but they must be able to run, play and bark because that is just what they do.

Great observation, he's probably not treating his own dogs terribly well. Nobody who takes care of their dogs in a positive way would ever kick ANY dog, unless it was the absolute last resort in a major altercation. This is really upsetting!

Maybe you could propose one or help start one, using this as an example. Someone here on BW might be able to describe how their local park handles complaints, to use as a "model."
But even without a process in place for the park itself, local laws probably would find this man's behavior a punishable offense. It's great that other park users are talking to each other about it and watching for a license plate number. I'd suggest starting a phone list, too, so if a complaint is eventually filed then others who also experienced the wrath of this idiot can come forward as further witnesses. Otherwise the first official complaint is likely to be "he said / she said" and if he has no prior record, you'd be lucky if it resulted in even a slap on the wrist.

Great thoughts Condopup. I will talk to some of the regulars and see if we can start some sort of process! There has gotta be something we can do. I know others feel the same way and have other frustrations.
I do agree with you about how he must treat his dogs as well - I really feel for them. Someone that mean wouldn't just be that way to a strangers dog. It is just so sick.

Oh my word! I just read this post and let me just say that if some one EVER kicks my dog I wouldnt call the police id call an ambulance because my dog cant take up for itself but I CAN. I am so sorry that this happened! It just shows how people who have no business having a pet wind up with them anyway. Im sending my prayers for his pets because who knows how he treats them?
