I had adopted a white boxer who is deaf. When I read the ad in the paper...it said "Free Boxer to good home." I was not looking for a WHITE boxer. When I came to visit her...she was so skinny and scarred up. The owners insisted she was not deaf...but that she had "selective hearing." Obviously, the owners did not realize her deafness and used the excuse of behaviour problems to explain her not listening to them. I know people are thinking..."why would you adopt a deaf white boxer?" Well...she was born into this world and loves life. I am able to provide a GOOD life that she deserves. So...when people see owners of white boxers...it does not always mean that these owners are oblivious to the many genetic problems that white boxers may have. It could mean that these owners are out to help the white boxers that are already born.

Myself, personally, no, I do not know any DWB. On the other hand, hubby has. He is interested in maybe owning one someday. His decsion, Im all for it..I believe a boxer is a boxer, my opinion. They are all beautiful...with or without abnormalalities.

I use to groom a white boxer in Florida that was deaf and she was the sweetest thing. Madchen's father is also a white boxer,but he is Not deaf, but I have never owned one.

Emma is a deaf white boxer. She is wonderful. I have to say that I couldn't get it any better. The plus sides to her being deaf... we never have to talk quietly so the puppy can sleep.. I don't have to turn the radio down in the car when she is in there because I'm not worried about hurting her hearing... When we train outside, she is never distracted by other noises. She pay total attention to me at the doggie park and doesn't even care that other dogs are barking. The down sides...hmmm... I guess the worst part is that I can't be lazy about anything, I have phisically get up and go get her. Sometimes I try to bang on the floor to get her attention. Also, she really is dependant on me...I take her everywhere I go pretty much, she can't stand to be left alone and if I leave the room and she is sleeping, I make sure to touch her with my toe as I go by so she knows that I am leaving the room and she can decide if she wants to follow me or not. Other than these few things, I can't really think of any other downsides to having a deaf dog. She trains great, and is learning all sign language. How great to have a dog you don't have to yell at! That's my hubbys favorite part. Anyway, we are out here and we do exist. :D

Our previous boxer, Shiner, was a deaf white boxer. She looked very much like Emma (beautiful.) The deafness never really was much of a problem. In fact, it sometimes helped. She had separation anxiety and if I forgot something in the house I could sneak back in without her hearing.

The coolest thing about it was that my wife and I had sign language that she understood! Substitute hand gestures for words and not much is different when boxers and treats are involved.

I haven't met any white deaf boxer, but I have met many coloured boxers with "selective" hearing. All boxers are boxers, and I believe they have equal rights to live.
