This is 2 julie ... it is the same as collie Nose

Actually, it isn't. Collie nose is thought by some to be an autoimmune disease, and by most to be hereditary. This is another case of the ABC promoting an incorrect idea without actually lying.

White Boxers, due to their lack of pigmentation, upon exposure to sunlight are prone to sunburn.

*Similarly* ;) Collies who lack pigementation *of the nose* (which white Boxers do not - they have black noses), upon exposure to sunlight, are prone to ulcerated lesions on the nose. (This is not referring to the muzzle, but to the nose itself.)

So yes, the conditions are similar - both are due to lack of pigmentation and both are induced by exposure to sunlight. They are also very dissimilar, since sunburn is not an autoimmune disease nor an hereditary one, and not all white Collies are prone to Collie nose.

It well may get burnt, but not ulcerated. Also, Boxer noses sometimes take a while to fill in - one boy I know had a spot of pink that didn't fill in until he was about 18 months :)

FWIW, I've never used sunscreen on my white girl and she's not had a problem. But, she's not outside unless we're home, and in the spring/summer the door is open, so she can come in whenever she feels too hot!

I have to put it on my males jewels, he loves to lay on his back but on a sunny day they will get sunburnt.
I had taking him to our vet once because his jewels were flaky and really red, and he had sunburn. And he had only been out for about an hour, here in Fl it doesn't take to long to get burnt.
I put it in a spray bottle and lightly mist them before he goes out.
spf 30 no color of perfum.
hane a great day.

I have two boxers (whites)and only one is deaf, she is the greatest , I wouldn't trade her for the world! she has learned hand comands and does very well but it does take time, we also do really neat things like if she is outside at night and we want her to come in we click the light on and off and she can see this so she comes, sometimes I think she is smarted than are hearing dog hahaha . I feel she is a great dog and I also feel she sets the breed standard for all loving Boxers
have a great day

My mother has 2 white boxers (sisters), one is deaf and the other is not. I also met a lady at a dog show that owns a deaf white boxer. I was told by a vet that due to their lack of pigmentation in the ear canal it causes deafness??? There is something to it because most of the boxers that are deaf are white.

Yes, it is lack of pigmentation in the inner ear that causes deafness in Boxers.

I don't think the statement was meant to be that most white Boxers are deaf, but that most deaf Boxers are white - which is true. It's all been covered in the forums before (and probably in this thread, although I don't remember at this point ;) ) so a search should pull up lots of good information.

I've met/know of 8 whites in the past year, & none were deaf.

I've never met/known of a coloured deaf one either, for that matter.

Perhaps something to do with bad breeding, too? Haven't bothered to read all of the loooooong thread, so perhaps someone already covered that..... So, don't bother if I can't be!

Just wanted to answer the poll.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, some may wish to visit this site & see what some other studies have turned up via this Norwwegian researcher.....
