Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia

Bayleigh went to the vet for sores and bleeding in her mouth. I was expecting periodontal disease. Her teeth are fine. The vet suspects immune mediated thrombocytopenia. The sores in her mouth are actually hemorraghes. She checked her entire body and she has quite a few on her body, like bruises.

I am a total mess! I was completely floored! After sitting down with me and going over all the tests and expenses, she ended up drawing blood for an autoimmune panel, coagulation panel and another to test her liver to make sure she can handle the meds.

We should hear the results tomorrow or the next day. Hopefully, something is found so Bayleigh doesn't have to have more blood drawn.

Her bad breath could be caused by hemorraghes in her esophagus and/or stomach.

$450 later, we are home with some meds. 6 weeks of prednisone, doxycycline and pepcid.

She is to have no rough play, no hard or crunchy food. I will definately stick with homecooking. For those in my family who think I spoil my dog...you ain't seen nothin' yet!

I just had Wyatt put down less than 5 months ago...I don't know if I can handle this. Please send us lots of healing vibes. I am off to do some research.

prayers your way

prayers and good healing vibes coming your way.

dont know if you know, but pepcid is on the list of NON recommended medicines to take for pregnant women.........my girlfriend at work pointed that out to me last month because my vet wanted Miss Penny to take a pepcid 1/2 hour before taking some stomach medicine, so once I heard that I was like, what????? why the heck would I give my pet pepcid, if pregnant women arent even suppose to take it.....

Tums is on the acceptable list......no pepcid in my house for my kids.....

love, light and blessings,

Bayleigh had 2 doses of her meds yesterday. This morning there was no blood on her blanket. The 2 spots in her mouth that have been bleeding have quit(for now) but she had another small bleed on the lower front gum. She is eating and drinking normally but seems tired. She did work up enough energy to do the normal chase the kitty routine through the house this morning.
