MD and PA search
Hello! I am from western Maryland and originally from PA. When we searched for Samson a year and a half ago, we were looking in probably some of the same areas as you are. I know it is frustrating to find a breeder with an available puppy, but reputable breeders do exist in these areas!!
According to the rules, I am not allowed to post the name of my breeder on BoxerWorld, but we were able to find a puppy in a small kennel in south-western PA. The breeder doppler and holtered both sire and dam. The dogs were tested for thyroid, liver, kidney, and cardiac panels every 10 months or prior to breeding. I paid $700 for Samson and she personality tested the puppies prior to placement (and did an excellent job finding us a puppy that fit with our family style). The interviews on the phone and the contracts were extensive, but well worth it. My advice if you find a good breeder is to put your name on the waiting list. We placed our name on the list in November and were called in February for a puppy.
Our second choice was with a breeder around your area - the puppies were $1000, but they weren't expecting a litter for awhile. I know that they also did extensive health testing with their dogs.
Prior to finding boxerworld, we had contacted a BYB in PA who sold their puppies for $400. When I found out about all of the health testing that should be done, I emailed them and they gave me the same reply that they have never had health problems in all the years they were breeding. (They also emailed me a picture of their rare white and black boxers). I'm happy we continued the search which led to Samson.
When we added a second dog to our family, we ended up getting her from our local animal shelter. When the time comes to add other members to our family, we plan on going through a rescue. Right now, there are two that I donate to (and browse the dogs weekly)
Both cover the northeastern US (including MD). One site has 40 dogs posted and the other has around 12 - many of them are under a year old.
