Doggies TeeTee For Different Reasons ...

Dogs tee tee for various different reasons.

1. normal : just needs to tee tee and or Marking territory.

2.abnormal physcological reasons: such as being fearful or scared, getting overly excited & loosing blader control.

3. abnormal physical reasons: Urinary tract infections, Diabetic, Overactive Thyroid. Many many different causes for frequent urination.

Hyperactivity and over excitement can really be a factor. My "Miss Tily" gets so excited to see me when I get home, she tee tee's all over the place ! ( This is a physcological problem )

My friend has a Boxer which has a hyperactive thyroid gland. This makes her Boxer a real hyperactive dog. Not only that, but the dogs whole metabolisim is faster than normal. She eats, poops & tee tee's alot. She burns calories faster too. Gets excited easily, nervous too. She was a very lean doggie until put on medication. Now she is fatening up & slowing down.

Don't give up on your doggie. Try visiting this link for more info. on the medical problems that can cause frequent urination.

a very relieved new boxer mom...

hello everyone...
i am new to boxer world and also a new boxer mom. my baby girl, kelseigh, is 4 1/2 months old and i was so relieved to find out that i am not the only one having housebreaking issues with a female. dont get me wrong, i love her to pieces but at times i am at wits end. with our jobs, between my husband and i someone is always home so we take keseigh out constantly, but still find her tinkling in the house. we crate her at bedtime and she is good for about 4-5 hrs before she wakes up and we take her out to use the bathroom and no accidents in the crate. on the other hand we can take her out to use the bathroom, put her in her crate, leave to go out for a few hours, come back and she has tinkled in her crate. it seems there is no rhyme or reason to her mishaps. after reading everyone elses story( and again its nice to know im not alone) i can now tell my husband it is not just us..:D

very interesting...

if i'm not mistaken here, everyone who is complaining that their dog is having trouble with house training has a female..............

I too have a female pup (4months) and am having problems with her. Really, the same that everyone has already mentioned. She is taken out and goes pee and poop and then fifteen minutes later pees in the apartment. She knows that it is wrong and when is caught in the act she runs (leaving a nice trail for me to clean!!!) and hides. Since I live in an apartment I am hoping to paper train her so that when she does get old enough she will have a place to eliminate. If I put my hands on her sides and walk her over to the paper, pick her up and place her on the paper, or say come on, lets go potty and get her to walk over to the paper on her own, she will pee on the paper. However, any other time she will just pee all around the apartment.

I am currently trying the crate training to help with her potty training also. The problem with that was that when I put her in there for an hour or so in order to make her hold it she would pee in the crate instead of making any kind of noise to alert me that she has to go. She did this even when I was right next to her kennel!! I did notice one thing about peeing in the kennnel. Everytime she did it, I would clean it up right away. Then, I realized that by doing this, she didn't have any negative consequences when eliminating there. So, one day when I was TWO FEET from her kennel and she peed in it, I yelled No! and then, I left her in there for about 15 minutes. At first, she just stood there then, she looked a little confused and really hesitant to sit down. She finally sat but just had that sad look that Boxers are so famous for. I think she got the point! Since then, she hasn't peed in the kennel when I've been home. However, sometimes she will pee in it when I'm gone for 2-3 hours.

I must add that she does currently have a bladder infection and we're treating it. But, I definitely also experience the frustration and have even cried because I'm so upset and frustrated and REALLY tired of cleaning up pee. My boyfriend and I were so disgusted with the carpet (WAS brand new when we moved into our apartment! Oops!! Hee Hee!) that we bought a steam cleaner ($200) to clean the entire carpet. It's great to get the smell up and since then, she has had less accidents! If you could, I would recommend getting one! It's still pretty frustrating though. Especially since we have another Boxer (14 months, Male) who was so easy to potty train (less than a month) at 9 weeks. Maybe it has something to do with females and anatomy or maybe in our case, I think that she gets distracted by our other Boxer and forgets about going on the paper! Something else that could be the problem is that her breeder lived in a house and had a dog door so, when I got her she was almost completely pottied trained for going through the door and eliminating outside. I think that she is probably confused about this change. I agree with earlier posts that sometimes what they learn as puppies really sticks with them.

I can't really offer any advice other than what other people have said and obviously, if I had any good advice, I probably would'nt be having this problem also.

For my boy, we did the following that we found in a book...pretty standard stuff.

It was easy since I was at home during that time all day so I would take him outside (we lived in a house) every 45 minutes-1 hour. When he pottied outside I praised him vocally and with a liver treat. Then, we stayed outside for a few minutes as another reward so that he didn't learn by mistake that peeing meant going back inside (a negative thing! they'd rather be outside!)
Then, once back inside we played with a toy for 15-20 minutes or so at which time I was right next to him. Then, I would hold him in my lap and play with a toy. Often, he would nap after playing. Otherwise, after playing, I would put him in his kennel for another hour and then, take him out to go pee again (cycle repeats) If he fell asleep, he stayed in there until he woke up and then, he would go outside.
Regarding meals, he was taken outside first to eliminate and then offered food. When he finished, he went back in his kennel for 30-45 minutes and then, was taken outside again to eliminate (they often eliminate 1/2 hour after eating).
If at anytime he did not eliminate when he was taken outside, I would put him right back in his kennel!!! Then, 15-20 minutes later I would take him outside again and would do this until he finally eliminated. That way, he learned that if he eliminated when taken out of his kennel and brought outside he got to play!!
I think this is a pretty standard way to potty train and for us it was extremely easy to do with our boy Boxer. However, with our girl Boxer, it's a different story. We joke that she has a learning disorder or ADD because she's just so reluctant to learn! If this method is similar to what you tried then, you got me 'cause I don't exactly know what else to do myself! If I find out anything else, I'll post! Otherwise, good luck, don't give up, and get some glade plug-ins!!!!!! :D

Completely Boxer Crazy
hello everyone...
well i am here to give the lastest update and the kelseigh housebreaking adventure.....
we are going on day 9 and counting with no accidents in the house!!! appicon nothing shy of a miracle. but i will share a funny story with you....several nights ago while outside on a potty break at 3am i noticed a shooting star go across the sky, so with nothing to lose i made a wish that kelseigh would stop tinkling in my brand new house on my brand new carpet and hardwood floors!!! i was starting to feel like cinderella always on my hands and knees cleaning up the floor after an accident....well its day 9 and still no accidents....weird i know but if it works (and i am grabbing at straws here, i had becaome a desperate woman) than i'll take it. we are still having issues with tinkling in the crate but only if i have to leave her for a bit. she can go all night without any accidents but i think because my husband works rotating shifts and i work permanent midnights she is use to someone always being home. it just seems like maybe she is punishing me for putting her in her crate when she knows its other than bedtime. i also have to get her to stop eating my windowsills. she is like a termite!!
anyway just wanted to share a little laughter during such a fustrating puppy time.....
keep smiling everyone and the next time you see that shooting star you migt wanna think twice.....;) :D

take care and be safe,

robin, kelseigh's mom

Boxer Buddy
I feel your pain

We have two boxers: one male Tinee (almost 10 months) and one female Lexiss (14 months), we have done EVERYTHING to house train them. In the last two weeks, Tinee has had one accident in the house (which I take full blame for).
This is what we finally have done to curve the problem.

Both dogs sleep in our room at night, "we" do not allow them on the bed with us they have a twin sized mattress that is next to our bed that they sleep on. (when I say "we", I mean Matt they sleep in the bed with me when he is gone, the "kids" and I just don't tell him).

Okay, we also have a baby gate that is in the door way so that they cannot get out and go in the house.
First thing at 6 am they go out to go potty we have a kennel outside that we put them in for about 15 to 20 minutes so they can do thier business. We bring them in and they eat and drink. Right before I leave at 7am, I take them out again to go.
They come back inside and straight to the crate. They are in the crate until Matt or I get home which is usually 4pm or 5pm. They go straight outside for 15- 20 minutes then indie to eat and drink then they go directly back outside and stay out for 2-3 hours depending on the weather (it changes so quickly in Missouri), they come in and they drink about 1 1/2 to 2 hours later I take them out agian. They do not get water after 8:30 at night and they always go out and stay out for atleast 15 minutes right before we go to bed, then they come straight in and go to bed.

On the weekends they stay outside if it is nice most of the day if it is cold, we take them out about every 2 hours and they stay out for atleast 10 minutes.

Like I said Tinee has only had one accident in two weeks and I hadn't taken him out in like 3 hours so I take the blame for that one.

I have also heard putting their leash on and attaching it to you helps that way they will be attached to you and most dogs won't go to the bathroom in front of you if they know it is not the place to go.

Tinee and Lexiss would always go to another room to go they would never do it in front of us. We have also installed gates in our livingroom doors so they have to be in the same room with us and cannot wander off and go to the bathroom they have to hold it until they go outside.

I hope this helps
