I am at the end of my rope...

We have had Roscoe for almost 5 weeks now, and he still isnt nearly potty trained. He is 11 weeks old today. For about a week, he got it. Then all of a sudden he started going in the house again. He gives no warning and will just stop what he is doing and pee. I am doing everything that I am supposed to be doing, taking him out every 20 minutes, after he eats, right when he gets up, a few minutes after he drinks, etc. Nothing seems to clicking with him. He gets treats and praise when he potties outside. But it seems like he will go potty outside and then 5 minutes later he will come in and potty on the floor. This morning, in a span of 15 minutes, he pottied on the floor twice. I took him out after he ate, and he peed. He begged to go in after that, and not 10 minutes later he pooped on the floor, with no warning. So I took him back out and he dribbled a bit, and then 10 minutes later he peed on the floor. It is so frustrating!! I am just wondering if I am the only one with this problem, or if it I am over-reacting. It has never taken me this long to potty train a puppy before.

Lola is 17 weeks and there is still times she will go on the floor! She will go outside for the most part but doesn't know how to ask out..... we also put news papers down so if she does need to go she has somewhere to go. It's hard work but he'll get there eventually! Keep rewarding him with a treat when he goes outside and when he does go inside say "no outside" and pick him up and put him outside. We also kind of bribe Lola to go outside we will say look treats go potty and we'll give you some!!!! It works too she will go then come running over for her prise!

Just keep at it, it is hard work but he will pick it up.

Is the weather cold where you are? That could be a reason.

Yes, it has been pretty cold, sometimes in the negative degrees. It seems like that may have been when he started to regress and now he just keeps going inside.

If you think your baby puppy is going to be potty trained at 11 weeks then I would SERIOUSLY think again - you have about 10 more months to go. You may think that they are getting it, but in reality they don't really get the concept until months later. And then they relapse! So take your time, take your pup out every 20 minutes, keep doing what you are doing with the praising and the treats and one day (about a year later) you'll realize they are actually housetrained. I used to tether Rowdy to me so I could keep an constant eye on him. Plus if he started to go in the house it was easy enough to scoop him up and take him outside. Good luck, you are not there yet.

I thought about just having him on a leash at home, but I feel bad. He likes to run around the house and chase the cat and do his little boxers burns through the house. I feel like if I tethered him to me, he wouldnt be getting all the exercise he needs, espcecially since we cant go on walks right now (kennel cough, and freezing weather). I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that has had these problems at least, that's really all I was looking for

OH HONEY, just about everyone here has gone thru the same thing. Just stick with it you are doing just fine.

Oh you are certainly not the only one...at 9 months I thought for sure Rowdy was potty trained, until one day he jumped up on the ottoman, looked straight at me and started to pee...:rolleyes: Back to square one...

I found that boys take longer than girls to potty train, well in my house anyway both skin & fur kids

All that fun he is having burning around makes him forget he has "business" to attend to I remember my Ailis would be burning around , stop, and you could imagine her thinking, "OOPS-too late-gotta go now!) I would try the tether and hang in there-this too shall pass...
