I almost cried this morning

I dropped Prancer off at the Vet to get spayed this morning, and I almost cried when they took her away. Thank God everything went alright, and I picked her up just a few hours ago. When they brought her out, she would not even look at me, I knelt down beside her and she turned her head away. Her tail did not move, just stayed glued to her bottom. The Vet told me that she would "milk it" for all the attention she can get. By this time, I actually had tears in my eyes. When we got home, I gave her some canned puppy chow, which she normally scarfs down, and she did not even sniff it. She went straight upstairs and laid down in my bed. When I went up to change into jammie pants, she actually left the room and went to the spare bedroom to lie down. Now I feel like the meanest puppy mommy in the whole wide world. Help me, how long will this last?

Ohhh, poor Prancer. Poor PrancersMom. I adopted my girl trough rescue, so she was already spayed. I have read accounts of Boxers who have displayed this type of behavior after they've been boarded. I doubt it will last too long. I bet she'll wake up tomorrow feeling a lot better. I'm with you on the tearing up, though. I would have done the same!

Oh, I wanted to add that I've read that dogs often like to be alone when they do not feel well. Maybe that's why she left the bedroom on you?

I felt the same way when I brought Tiger to be neutered (is that how you spell that, lol). I felt like I was being a mean mommy. When I picked him up he didn't want anything to do with me. He looked at me like "how could you let them do that to me". But he cuddled my husband all nite. After a couple of days he forgave me. Thank goodness! I had my feelings hurt. Don't worry she will forgive you. It is amazing how much they say with those pretty eyes.

Harley gave me the cold shoulder also for the first 2 days. He was drunk from the pain meds. It is very sad to leave them for this surgery but it's over and they get back to normal in about 3 days.

I hope you have an e-collar. We didn't have one and about a week later had to take Harley to the emergency vet because he licked himself so much that it got infected. Even keeping a real close eye on them is not enough. I guess when it starts to heal it itches and drives them crazy but with the e-collar on there is no chance of getting near the area.

Good luck and healing vibes your way to a quick recovery.

Aww, you poor thing. We all feel really guilty when we send our babies to get the deed done. Just wait, in a couple of days, she'll be back to her normal self, loving you to pieces. lovicon Kudos for doing the right thing, even as painful as it is.

I guess we got luckey cause when we got our boy snipped he wanted alot of attention. On the ride home fro the ver he laid his head on my leg. On ather note my cat turned mean for awhile after his. Of course we got him declawed at the same time. My cat also tip toed for about 6 months afterwords. We took him to the vet many times because we were afraid that something wasn't right. After many many test the vet decided that the cat jsut had it in his head that his feet hurt, even though it didn't.

what to tell Prancer

Dear Prancer's Mommy:

I'm so sympathetic. Buster had his surgery 2 weeks ago and I felt terrible too.

Here's what I suggest: Tell her it wasn't your fault. Tell her it was the vet's fault and that you would NEVER have taken her there if you had known what was going to happen!

She will feel better soon and then she'll forgive you (and your vet will forgive you too for a little white lie)

Buster sends his regards and his sympathy

p.s. Just keep telling yourself it was the right thing to do and Prancer will be healthier in the long run.
