how old until most of the puppy problems ended???

Andi20----love that sign! I actually had an obnoxious friend over the other night and Calla was annoying him I guess. Most of our friends have learned to accept her and let her get her excitement out when they first come in. He kept saying "Put that dog in another room, lock her up, blah blah blah". I said the exact same thing--This is her house. You don't like her or what she is doing--GET OUT. But I like that sign, I may use it!!

By the time Coco was 4mos old she was house broken...we had two accidents after that. Since then nothing She is 13 mos old now. By the time she was 3 mos she was sleeping through the night, she never gets up unless we do. Now...we did have issues with jumping and that was alleviated by a couple of things. First we quit making such an issue when we came home & ignored for just a few minutes while she followed us around nosing us.. Seriously after a few minutes & she had herself under control, then we pet & loved. Also, we went to training. I hired a private trainer to work with us and it has helped any behavior issues we had immensely. As far as the biting, you have to teach bite inhibition & choose how you play. I think the biting goes on for quite some time, that is how she would play with her litter mates if they were with her. It's just a matter of teaching her not to bite hard and when to stop. We just said OUCH and she would immediately let go. She still play bites if she's playing with husband or son who play rougher than I but she never bites down and never bites hard. Now..if she really wants to bite, she nips instead. She doesn't do this play biting at this age unless she is prompted or encouraged by who is playing with her.

I think it depends on the individual dog! My oldest, Koda, took a little longer than my second pup, Deuce. I'm sure it helped having Koda to show him the ropes but Deuce was doing good at the breeders before we ever brought him home. So I think they do it at their own pace. Koda also nipped longer than what Deuce did.

Koda pees more than any dog I know! ! So I cut the water off at a certain time at night to eliminate the middle of the night bathroom breaks. That has helped a lot but he still needs to go every now and then and he'll be 3 in July. Deuce is 4 months and hardly ever wants to go out in the middle of the night.

Payton is almost 5 months old and he has slept thru the night since 2 days after we brought him home. he sleeps with us- so I don't know if that makes a difference....as a matter of fact sometimes we have a hard time getting him out of bed in the morning.. hahaha!

As far as potty training- he has had 4 accidents since he has been 9 weeks old. We have been so lucky. He's really good about either whining at the door or ringing his bells.

Now the getting excited part is something we're still working on- he doesn't really jump on people- but if we're out walking, and he's on a leash, he acts nutso when someone comes up to pet him. He seems to think that everyone LOVES Boxer wiggles, hugs and sloppy kisses... Oh well- could be worse things happening

I got Beau at 9 months and I don't think he was ever totally housetrained because he still goes in the house sometimes. He has slept through the night since the day I got him. At 14 months, he still jumps on everyone and play bites. He starts obedience training at the end of the month, so I'm hoping we'll be able to solve the behavioral problems soon!

Basil was potty trained at about 4 months. We were struggling until the trainer recommended bells on the door. We taught Basil to ring the bells and he was potty trained about 2 days after that.

Basil is just now starting to sleep through the night on most nights. He's 1yr 9 months.

Basil never was a jumper so we really didn't have to deal with this behavior.

Basil was a puppy biter and it took us about 6 months to break that habit. Our trainer told us to yelp like a puppy when he would bite because that's how it would be handled in the litter. I worked like a charm.

We were so lucky! Crate training was the best thing we did! We only had like 2 accidents in the house. Our biggest problem (which was not a big deal) was the hyperness. Kobe turned 3 in April and we have noticed that he's finally calming down. He is still spry and loves to play, but it isn't constant. Now he'll just sit or lay with us when we're not playing. He does still go crazy whenever we get company. He doesn't jump on people anymore but he kidney beans and jumps around.

Pimp had been sleeping through the night since he was 3 months.

I think Pimp might be potty trained however when he has only had 5 accidents since we got him.

He doesn't bite or nip at anyone...now lick that is another story!!!!

Jumping is being worked on. Because he does do that. However we are starting puppy training hopefully next week so that will soon be taken care of.

All and all I think we got pretty lucky!!

jada has slept through the night since day 1, was potty trained by 8months, now only has accidents when I fall asleep to early not letting her out 1 last time, or when i don't get up on our regular wake up time, like this morning, her and samson, pooped everywhere, samson, pee'd on my chair, tore up my cell phone and shredded a bunch of napkins. I will no longer sleep through my alarm, lesson learned.

LOL. Lieutenant is 8 months now. He has been sleeping through the night since about 4 months. He is house broken but it has taken lots and lots of work. My suggestion is 'SCHEDULE!'. Make sure you keep your schedule. I have the same problem as 'Jada's' owner if you break the schedule the doo doo on the floor is your problem. The jumping problem well we still have that and my fiance encourages it by letting him jump up and put his paws on her waist so he thinks it's ok to do this to everyone. Don't know if I'll ever beat it due to that. Aren't they so wonderful!!!
