How much water to give a day?

Sash our 4 month get crated during the day lucky me and my wife trade days coming home for lunch and let her out. She has no water in the crate. Anyway she gets as much as she wants which is usually about 3 cups in the evening. Potty breaks about every hour untill we go to bed around 11pm then she will sleep through some night untill i get up at 6am. but every once in awhile she will need to get up and go potty at about 2 or 3 am. No bid deal just remind yourself when you are standing out front in boxer shorts freezing that sleep is really over rated.

I think that when Heidi was a puppy I got up with her 2 sometimes 3 times a night untill she was 8 months old then i think 1x a night till she was about 1 or so, but the funny thing was my husband learned to not hear her cry at night and her crate was in our room. once she was housebroken she did not have to sleep in the crate at night and well, it seems that she has found her way to our bed and doesnt make a peep at night!

We sometimes go to bed from 9pm-6:30AM. Is that too long to expect a dog to hold it?

That is a rather long time for a dog to hold it. I would get up in the night and take your dog out for a potty break. Alternatively, you could keep your dog in the bedroom with you and then maybe he would wake you up when he needed to go out.
