Sorry about all the poop in this title/question, but I was wondering how much stool is too much stool aka something to be concerned about. My boxer is a 2 1/2 yr old 62 lb girl (she's big not overweight), who eats about 2 1/2-3 cups of Timberwolf Southwest Chicken kibble a day. During both of her daily walks, she will poop about 3 separate times. The first time is a big pile, the second a bit smaller and the third just very little (kind of like she's emptying out her tank, as we joke). The stool the first two times is solid in shape, but on the softer side. The final stool (when she's emptying) is a little runny.

Does this mean that she is not digesting her food properly? Or that she is allergic?

I dog-walk other dogs, and they definitely don't poop as much, and it's a bit more solid in consistency. When we switched her from science diet (what the shelter we adopted her from fed her) to higher quality kibble (timberwolf) i read that we might see her actually poop less, but that does not seem to be the case. We switched her food about 3 months ago.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I dont have any advice, but I can tell you my Roscoe does the same thing. After he eats he will usually poop at least twice, sometimes more. The first one is usually solid and then they get runnier as they go on. We feed him Natural Balance Potato and Duck.

I know my 2 poop about 4 times a day each. Ruby does that on walks too, she poops properly then around the 3rd time its runny and I'm thinking 'I hope no one saw that, I can't pick it up!'

Haha. I TOTALLY know what you mean. It's the same with the third one. If you try and pick it up it just smears into the grass. I just kept on reading about people's dogs have firm stools and pooping less when they went on premium dog food, so I was a bit concerned as to why mine appears to be a poop machine.

Don't know that I have any advice or should I say expertise on the poop subject, but I can tell you that Josi usually takes about three poops a day (morning, afternoon, and night)...but she has never taken more than one bomber in one outing unless she has the case of an upset tummy:)

My 10 month old does the same thing. His first walk he poops at least twice, the first one is hard and easy to pick up, second one is loose, the third (sometimes) is totally liquid. After breakfast he poops again. Then at 4pm, and 10.30pm. We feed him Timberwolf Elk/Salmon mix with Timberwolf Black Forest.
I don't really know why dogs do that but just to let you know that you are not alone.
