how much poop is too much poop?

I know my 2 poop about 4 times a day each. Ruby does that on walks too, she poops properly then around the 3rd time its runny and I'm thinking 'I hope no one saw that, I can't pick it up!'

Biff is the very same - I used to think he associated a long walk with lots of poop. - like he thought I was expecting him to deliver as much poop as possible when I take him out

....and have you ever been obliged to try and pick that last one up, because someone WAs watching - and got it all over you fingers ??? Yuck! :eek:

maybe it's a boxer thing. i have found that the type of food they eat seems to affect the amount of poop they make. The least amount of poop i've seen so far has been royal canin's 'boxer' food. my boys now only poop maybe twice a day. (but then again, i count "one" poop as all poops made within about 5-10 minutes of each other - my boys also do the 2 or 3 squats per poop!) the worst was when they had to poop maybe 4 times a day. we've fed wellness, candida, blue, and a couple of other all natural foods over the years, and i've been happy with my royal canin! my only poop complaint? one of my boys likes to walk while squatting/pooping, so theres more than one pile!

I disagree - Biff is on Timberwolf - not cheap food.

When he gets really runny, I think it's usually because he is a scrounger when we go out on walks. When he is off leash, he's usually devoured whatever "titbits" Joe Public has left behind, before I can yell "Leave it!" - I caught him with a dead bird the other day - Argghhhh!

I do think it can be related to how much of a "trash hound" they are I feed Timberwolf as well and my boy goes once, it is "perfect" and that is that. He has become very regular on Timberwolf. My girl, however, who is on the exact same food is a "serial pooper' 2-3 times per walk. If she is off lead and really exercising I have found her second one will be softer and I have heard this from other dog owners-not just boxers. But Nysa is also forever putting stuff in her mouth, which my boy does not do. So I think Biff's Mom is on to something here.

Harley can pooh when he wants too and he can save it up when the weather is crappy and then he has the one massive poohand its solid, if he has a bunch of poohs around the same time they are smaller and runny I think because its the end of the line so to speak nothing else is coming and he rushes it out.

I am so glad to be reading everyones comments on this subject! I know that may sound funny but my husband and I were having this discussion just yesterday. Zeus will be 4 months old next week and he has been pooping 2 or 3 times like every other time we take him out. We were starting to worry that something was wrong with him so hearing your comments that your boxers do the same thing puts my heart a little more at rest. I do think we need to find a better brand of food and that may help some. The recall of all those brands of pet food really threw us off. Plus, Zeus does not chew food (or anything else) he just tries to swallow it whole so dry food is out of the picture until he gets older.

but timberwolf is high-quality, premium dog-food hence my consternation. thank you everyone for your comments. i might try and switch the cookiemonster to some other high quality food and see if that changes anything. but it sounds like in the meantime there isn't anything wrong with her.
