well my boy is soooo obvious... Rocky, Rocky Balboa... yadda yadda yadda... we like it and so does he, so that's all that matters, right...

Miss Lady-girl because when we got her, she was so skinny and scarred all over her legs and body, we were all unsure of her future with us, but we wanted to give her every equal chance a puppy would have, within hours, we knew by the way she walked into our home and tippy toed around, *aka twinkletoes* she was a LADY... just as prim and proper as any Lady... she's perfect for that name...

Great thread!

Rosco
When DH & I lived in an apartment we always knew as soon as we bought a house we’d get a dog. We talked about our future boxer all the time so it seemed fitting to give him a name…Roscoe. So when we were house hunting we’d always say “Roscoe would love this yard”…or “not enough yard for Roscoe”. I guess we referred to Roscoe a lot because when we finally bought our house my father in law gave us a pooper-scooper and it said “for Roscoe”. So by the time we actually got him he had already been named for years.

Nano
Then we ended up getting Nano too. The litter was bigger than expected and she was the last one delivered. She was this tiny little thing, much smaller than her siblings and no one had spoken for her yet. I asked the breeder if we could take her too and they agreed so we needed another name. It was around the same time that the Nano Ipod came out and since she was so little it seemed fitting. And since Nano ends with an O we dropped the E on Rosco’s name so they would both end in O.

Trucker
When Trucker came to us as a foster the rescue was calling him “spanky” which did not fit him at all. So from the 1st day he was with us we decided he needed a nickname. Since he had a broken leg and was wearing an e collar it would take him a long time to turn around in his crate. We would say that he had to do a 30point turn just like an 18-wheeler in an ally…so from that we came up with “Trucker” which became his official name when we decided to adopt him. “Trucker” totally fits him. He’s a tuff dog and we all know “truckin ain’t for sissies”.

My fawn girl is named Ruby, as she is red. Luka means light which is appropriate as he is white and I just love the name :)

Both of ours are rescues and came with their names, but we actively decided to keep their names. Oscar was rescued at two months from a puppy mill and his foster mom named him after Oscar de la Hoya. He was three months old when we adopted him and I didn't especially like the name (I love it now) and could have changed it, but he just looked like an Oscar. Mali was named by her prior owner for Muhammed Ali, surredered to a shelter at 11 months and adopted by us about two weeks later. DBF Steve is a fan of Ali and like the concept of her name, and I didn't want to put her through any more changes in her life. Unless a person would see it written, they would think it was Molly, except when we want to be especially firm with her, when we pronounce it MahLEE (rhyming with Ali).

Roxi was named before I had her. I had made up my mind to find a female brindle and I would name her Roxanne, Roxi for short. Once I found her, I was reluctant to name her Roxanne in fear that everytime I told someone her name, I would have to hear them sing the song "Roxanne" by the Police. My sister suggested Roxanna, allowing me to keep Roxi but eliminate the possible karaoke. After resolving the first name dillema, my now ex-husband wanted her middle name after his favorite football player, Lynn Swan. I thought, "great. Roxanna Lynn it is!" He said, "ahh, no. -Swan". We compromised and came up with Sweetness after the great Walter Payton. So, Roxanna Sweetness it is.

In the last five years, I have encountered at least 10 people with boxers name Roxy. I was a bit clueless that it was such a popular name!

Arrowpup

My male is named Arrow because his white marking on the back of his neck sort of resembles an arrowhead. Arrow was already on his first shot record (they had to give him some name to identify him) and we decided that we liked it enough to keep it. When we got Sofie about a month or so later, I decided to let the kids name her.

My all-time favorite movie is "Gone With the Wind", so when we got Scarlett (now at the bridge), she was registered as "Katie Scarlett O'Hara Mauney". When we got Butler, I wanted to carry on the theme. He was born on the 4th of July and the entire litter had patriotic names. His was "Highland's Freedom Reigns", and they called him "Reno". So...hence "Butler", after none other than the love of Scarlett O'Hara's life, Rhett Butler. I have plans one day of having another boxer girl. Her name will be Bonnie Blue.....anybody know what that is for? Scarlett and Rhett's little girl who was killed while jumping her pony was named - you guessed it - Bonnie Blue.

I wanted a dog of my own since I was 5 I always said I'd get a girl pitbull and name her Mary Jane(MJ for short) Im a big comic book fan and MJ is spidermans gf/wife

Well fate stepped in and a waiting list I expected to be on for years produced a litter of all white males to a breeder looking for show prospects. I got the call 3 days aftert hey were born that I had a White boy saved for me.
SO the name hunt started, I didnt want a tough sounding name Fin is gonna be huge and me being a guy, I looked through 100s of pages of names on the internet, consulted you all here, and finally landed on Finlay as i was looking through Irish names Finlay means Fair Hero. I thought perfect Fair- as in light in color and Hero- which doesnt necessarily mean Tough. Plus the icing on the cake Finlay is a current WWE wrestler one of my favorites these days and his catch phrase is "My name is Finlay and I love to Fight" in a thick Irish brogue(sp?) He has a T-Shirt with the saying but I couldnt bring myself to have my Boy wear a shirt that says "I love to Fight" across it especially with the media's focus these days.

Well thats my story!
