We named our first boxer Martin (Marty) der Busenfreund (sp?). Sorry, can't remember if I am spelling it right. The Martin is after my good friend from Czech Republic who is a professional hockey player & after Mark Martin (my husband's favorite NASCAR driver at the time) der Busenfreund (bussom buddy) was the closest German translation I could get to best friend. Marty went to Rainbow Bridge on 8-31-02, the day after his 2nd birthday.
We were so devastated with the loss of Marty, but knew that we wanted another puppy. My hubby wanted one with the same birthday, but, well, that was impossible. I finally found a litter in NC - about 5 hours from home. The birthdate was 7-21-02, but we did not get the pup until 10-18-02. While we were waiting until the day we could pick him up, we searched for names & never really settled on one. Being a hockey fan, I wanted to name him Winger & the hubby did not like that. Said it sounded like Weiner. He suggested Puck, but that was a no-go with me for several reasons - Puck on The Real World (MTV) &, well, it could sound obscene.
The breeder called him Bozo because he was the clown of the litter. Well, I did not want a Bozo - although looking back, it really does fit. LOL!
On the drive home, my mom & myself were trying out names. I pasted by a road sign that read "Chance" & knew that was it. His AKC name is Dixon's Second Chance. Kind of speaks for itself........our second chance with a Boxer.
