How cold is too cold...

I believe it depends on the dog. Reggie was born and raised here in MN and he is a freeze baby. It doesn't matter if its 30 above or 30 below he acts like he is going to freeze to death even when he just walks from my vehicle to the house. I keep my house right around 70 degrees and he still has to be under blankets.

We have two boxers and live in NE Ohio (I see you're an Ohioan too). They seem to keep warm on our walks but it's their feet that have difficulty. Just be mindful of the feet - we check the feet when they limp. It's a battle b/c we walk in the road since it's plowed but then they get salt in the feet (very painful) so, even though the sidewalks are more challenging I would say stay off the roads due to salt.

ALSO: We have the fido fleece for both boxers, but I don't recommend the fido fleece for two reasons: the hair is so drawn to the fleece and they aren't made for the boxers' broad chests. My mom has a boxer and she has a great coat that has a criss cross strap underneath and, waterproof shell on the outside and warm white stuff next to the boxer's fur.

Hope this helps.

Living in Miami, with 30 degrees outside I wouldn't step foot outside the door! :) But when we had our "cold" front it went down to 43 degrees and the first night I took him out, he made it to the corner, quickly did his bussiness and took ME back inside, lol. Next day i went and got him a sweater.. he made it a whole 2 blocks the next night!

  That made me laugh. Ginger is not too fond of her fleece coat. This winter has been the coldest in years. I get this look from Ginger when I get the coat out. She runs first and then looks in disgust when I put it on her. Too funny. She usually runs right back in the house after she does her business, she hates the cold.

Just thought I would add my two cents:

I work at an outdoor doggie daycare in VA so the climate gets quite hot in the summer and pretty cold in the winter.

From my experience, as long as the dogs are moving around and not just standing there then they love being out in the cold. It is so funny because most people think they hate the cold, but as long as they are excercising I think they prefer it. In the summer time when it gets hot they just lay around all day and hardly move at all..

30 degrees will probably not phase them as long as they stay on the move. Keep an eye on their feet because if the ground is wet + cold it can make their feet a lot colder faster. They will turn really pink!

When taking holly out in minus 30 degrees or lower i always put coat and boots on her, but baring in mind she is a pup and has got used to wearing clothes. when its that temperature we only walk for about 15mins at a time coz she is young

These are some great coats that I got my puppy Copper for the winter. It is wind and water proof to for those really cold rainy days too.

If Mason's running around he's fine. He likes the cold weather better than the heat since he gets too hot in the summer so he has to stop playing...
