My wife and I are proud new owners of an 8 week old baby girl. Her name is Missy and she is fawn with a black mask. All suggestions reguarding raising a Boxer pup would be greatly apprieciated. This is our first ever dog and I have found it's much like taking care of a baby. LOL(haven't had much sleep the last week) One question, do they just chew, chew, chew and keep on chewing? About when will it pass? And how can we control Missy from eating hands, feet, the chairs, the rug, and everything else she gets her little teeth on?

Thanks,
AngeloD

Welcome to BW!! I hope that you were able to find some answers on the chewing issue. It does seem to be a very notorious trait of these little guys. Hammer is 4 months old now, and is finally getting the "no bite" command down to a fine art. But he still likes to chew, he just doesn't chew on us so much. I've heard a product called Bitter Apple works well for making things distasteful, but we haven't had to resort to that yet. My suggestion to you is LOTS of toys that she can chew on. When she chews on things she shouldn't get her attention to things she can. Hammer likes plush toys, but not too soft! Good luck!

Looking forward to seeing pics soon!

Boxer Buddy
Welcome to BW! Congrats on your new baby! When Molly was still a "little" puppy (she's still a puppy for another year or so) I would say "Ouch" in a slightly higher than normal voice when she would bite or chew on me, and she stopped it pretty quickly. I also keep lots of her toys around for her to chew on. Good luck and keep us posted! Hope to see some pictures.

Hi Angelo and Welcome to Boxer World!:)
I've used the Bitter Apple in the past. Make sure you have lots of toys for your baby. Chew toys are good but, be sure to keep an eye on Missy when using them....don't want her to choke on them.

I am new to BW also, but not new to boxers. My 12 year old no longer chews (ha ha) but today is 12 weeks for my baby Brutus, and, ah the chewing! I thought I would have to get stitches last week! My puppy play pen has been a godsend, as well as reading a lot of books ("The Perfect Puppy" Readers Digest and "The Boxer-Family Favorite" by Stephanie Abraham). It always helps to get ideas from other Boxer people-not just dog people. Boxers are SO smart, if we work with them early, they have us trained in no time!

I must get back to the latest read, "Boxers for Dummies," while he takes a nap!
Good luck!
