Ok, my 8 yr old boxer always goes to the bathroom on the side of our house. He kind of trained himself to go there. Anyway, when it rains or whatever he constantly brings mud or dirt in with him. Do you think there would be anything theat I could put on the ground to stop the muddy feet.

I don't know what you could put on the ground, but I have the same problem...wet/muddy feet. I just leave an old dishtowel hanging by the door and wipe Greta's feet everytime she comes in. She now will sit down and wait for her feet to be wiped off before getting of the mat in front of the door.

I bought some boots. They work great. I'll just take a little while for the dog to get used to them. They sell some at petsmart. Pay and get the best ones they have. You want to have the ones that have soles on them, not just cloth. It sure beats having to wash four feet in a bucket of water.

Our dogs have made paths thru our backyard that are all mud now. We bought straw and tried to plant grass seed then covered the paths with straw. It worked for a little while but now they have made paths through the straw!! Now they have boots and a towel by the door for when we are too lazy to put on the boots. :p

With 4 dogs I don't think I could put 16 boots on and off everytime we go out....lol. But we have trained them all "wipe your feet" and they stand on the large rug at the back door while we wipe their feet with a towel.

I always hose their feet off and keep a towel handy to dry them. They are so used to this it has become routine. I would love an easy way out though, I really have to keep on top of them--boots sound great, but I agree it may take longer to take them on and off than to just hose the feet off.

we have lots of mud too! :D So, each winter, we use the Snow Fence and block off half of the yard. That way, we only have half the yard to re-seed in the spring! (we tried straw, but it only killed the grass even worse - tho it did stop the mud) As for keeping the mud outside where it belongs, i put a towel on the floor as they walk in. This gets the "initial" mud, then there is an inexpensive area rug (a 5 x7 foot) which gets the rest. They have to be really muddy to track it any farther!! If its that bad, they usually need a bath :D

I wipe Cisco's feet if they are not to bad. If they are terrible, his crate is by the door and he goes in there till he dries!

If it is along side of the house I would suggest pea gravel, crushed rock or wood chips. Many years ago we lived in a condo where grass would not grow due to all the trees. We filled our small little area with pea gravel and our dogs were okay with going out there. No mud to deal with either and it worked well. :)

What a great post, it has rained here 24/7 for over two weeks, I'd like to call the WWF ( or whatever it is called) and offer our back yard for mud wrestling championships. Luckily we have a mud room, currently you can't even see the floor with all the dried mud. I clean it once a week but even that is fruitless labor. We have at least a dozen "mud" towels and the boxers know that they have to have their feet wiped. Sometimes we leave them in the mud room for a while so they dry. If i had a penny for every time we said to the boxers " Ok guys, you have 4 feet, not 2 or 3, hold still while I wipe ALL 4, I'd be rich!
