Completely Boxer Crazy
Well, I joined BoxerWorld seven years ago when we got our first Boxer, Duchess, but I haven't been an active member for quite some time now, so I thought it appropriate to introduce myself again. :)

My name is Heather. My husband, Brandon, and I have a beautiful 7+ year old fawn girl named Duchess. She is the love of our lives. We also have two beautiful cats, Sam & Beldar. They are 12 & 11, respectively. We do not have "real" children, and we consider these three furbabies to be our kids.

Friday evening we aquired a 2nd boxer. He's a flashy fawn male that we have decided to call Bogart. He had shown up in my mother-in-law's neighborhood a couple of weeks before had spent that time scavenging for food at a local gas station, getting in the highway, and going from house to house in search of scraps. No one knew who he belonged to. My MIL finally took him in and called us when one of the neighbors took a shot at him (thankfully missing) and then camped out in his yard with his gun, waiting on another chance. :(

When we got him home Friday night, he was all wiggles. He's skin and bones and is covered in scars. He was also wormy and covered in fleas. A trip to the vet Saturday morning took care of the worms & the fleas, and he got a clean bill of health other than needing to fatten up and testing a very mild positive for heartworms. (Our vet says he does not recommend treating the heartworms on such a mild positive but rather keeping him on heartguard to prevent him from getting any more and letting the few that are there die off.) The vet estimates that he is between two and three.

While it's obvious that Bogart has been out on his own for quite a while, it's also obvious that he has spent a lot of time in someone's home. He slept in Duchess' old crate the first two nights and didn't fuss at all. He is housebroken, only having a few incidents where he has lifted his leg on the couch. He's great with kids and other dogs.

I have called the local humane society to make sure no one had reported him missing. We're also planning to take him to get him scanned for a microchip as soon as we have a chance. Everyone in the neighborhood where he was wondering around knows where he went, so if the original owners come looking, they will know where to send them. We wonder if someone didn't move off and abandon him though.

Well, sorry for such a long post. I'm off to check out the rest of the site and post a few issues we're beginning to have. Maybe I can find the solutions I need here!

Welcome back to BW! Maggie sends boxer wiggles.

Thank you both for being such angels and rescuing this poor baby. I can't believe that someone actually SHOT at him - some people are just out of control!
