Update-we got our harness!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and input. I ordered the sense-ation harness online and it came in the mail (and only 3 days after ordering!) and I am really impressed with it so far!! I put it on Coop for the first time for a little trip to the pet supply store for some treats, and WOW! He was so responsive and did not try to fight me at all. Just the slightest bit of a pull from me and he slows and gets back on track with his walking. He also is not trying to jump on people when we are out. It seems like he is very comfortable with it, and I am getting the results I hoped for. I know that this is not going to be something I can use forever and he will need to learn to walk with just a flat collar, but this is very helpful to me now with just showing him how I need him to walk (without a fight) until he really gets the hang of staying in the heel position for obedience. I would definitely recommend this harness to people having issues with a strong puppy.

Is this much different than the gentle leader or pretty similar. I have a GL, but it's not working much for us and looking for Plan B !

Cooper is at the age now where leashwalking is becoming a bit of a hassle, he is very strong at 6 1/2 months and almost 50 pounds. Our assistant trainer for our puppy K at our training club suggests this harness, she uses them herself and I saw her poodle wearing one at a session a few weeks ago. I was reading about it and it says that it was developed by a woman who incorporated her experience with horses and dogs in that they both tend to brace against pressure (opposition reflex) which makes sense to me as I have worked with horses as well. It seems like it would be comfortable and a good training aid. If anyone has any input or advice I would really appreciate it. I would like to get one soon and start with it before we begin our next level of obedience in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

I have never used a gentle leader, but have read varying things about it, from good to not so good (mainly that it can hurt a dog's neck and can be hard to get a dog used to)... You could do a search here to find out more info from other's with experience using it.
The sense-ation harness is very different, it is an actual harness, although designed more simply than others, and the clip is in front on the chest, rather than on the back of the neck. What really drew me to it was the fact that the woman who developed it came up with the idea from her work with horses. I am a horse person too, and I see a lot of similarities in the way dogs and horses move and reacts, so I thought this would be a great thing to try. She talks about the "opposition reflex" (the urge to brace against pressure) and dogs and horses do the same thing. This harness helps you to be able to turn them the slightest bit to get responses without doing anything harsh. I would recommend it if other things are not working for you. I am so glad that we bought it!

Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness Works For Me

I was very hesitant to buy the Easy Walk harness because I thought it was just another gimmick, but I did anyway.
I am very happy with my results, as my brindle boxer, King (6 months), stopped pulling immediately during our first walk. At first, I was wondering why King wasn't pulling and was waiting for him to pull, but he never did. That was when I realized the harness was effective.
The trick is to make sure the harness is fitted correctly and your leash attached to the harness, should have very little slack, better yet, no slack, but without pulling on the leash. It was a bit expensive, but well worth it and easy to take on and off and adjust.

Gentle Leader Walking Harness

I went and bought this harness yesterday and was so excited to get home and try it. Baylee seems to walk well for my husband, but he is also obviously a lot stronger than I am. Lately he's had to do most of the walks because Baylee is getting so strong and really starting to pull. So, I got home yesterday and put the harness on Baylee and she FREAKED out!!! I gave her tons of treats while putting it on, etc but she just flipped. I attached the leash and tried to move her, but she just planted her feet and would not go anywhere......I was hoping that this would just be okay with her which is why we didn't go with the head halter......any suggestions on getting her used to it or should we just ditch the idea and keep her on the flat collar....?
