Has anyone tried this harness?

Cooper is at the age now where leashwalking is becoming a bit of a hassle, he is very strong at 6 1/2 months and almost 50 pounds. Our assistant trainer for our puppy K at our training club suggests this harness, she uses them herself and I saw her poodle wearing one at a session a few weeks ago. I was reading about it and it says that it was developed by a woman who incorporated her experience with horses and dogs in that they both tend to brace against pressure (opposition reflex) which makes sense to me as I have worked with horses as well. It seems like it would be comfortable and a good training aid. If anyone has any input or advice I would really appreciate it. I would like to get one soon and start with it before we begin our next level of obedience in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

It's fantastic, I definitely recommend it. I used it a lot on my girl when she was younger and went through the pulling phase. It's great because 1) your arm doesn't get yanked off, you actually have some control, and 2) when your dog pulls, because the harness buckles in the front, it almost makes your dog turn towards you instead of going forward, make it easier for you to get his attention and get him back on track walking at your side. I used it along with clicker training for learning to walk well on leash and we had great results. I don't really use it anymore but if ever I have to walk a dog I don't know, I bring one along and put it on. Or if I know I'll be in a situation where I have both my dogs and I know they'll be over-stimulated, I put it on then just so I know I'll have a bit more control! Definitely a great product.

Sounds great to me! I actually saw this on a boxer pup in a magazine at PetSmart, and looked for one for Caney forever and couldn't find it in a store! She is just the same age/weight as your pup. She is doing great on the leash -- I actually took her for a walk in the neighborhood tonight, and half of the time she was OFF the leash and stayed right next to me! appicon
But I know what you mean, you think they're still "little" and then you're in the park one day, all of the sudden they see another dog to go sniff and nearly jerk your arm off!! Where'd all that muscle come from??
We've still got to work on her leash-manners when such "distractions" are present.

I use a similar harness on Dino, our 1 year old. It's called the Yuppie-Puppy No-Pull Harness by Sporn Company. What a great invention! I bought it at WalMart for under $10.

I use something similar with Pearl called the Easy Walk. It definitely helps and I don't leave home without it.

Beau has the royal blue one I love it. He was such a pain when he was just wearing a collar on walks that it almost did me in. The sens-ible harness works wonders. Beau still pulls a bit but he's not dragging me down the street anymore and it only takes one quick tug to get him to stop pulling. I definitely recommend it!

I highly recommend this harness. The first time I took Moab for a walk with it, he didn't pull a bit. Before, with just a collar and leash, he was a nightmare to walk. Now, I can take him for a walk as often or as long as I want and he behaves wonderfully. They're absolutely worth the money!

CaneyCreek - OH MY GOSH!!! How the heck are you able to walk a 6 1/2 month old puppy without a leash?? Please do tell! That is my goal down the road! I would love that. We have a 4 1/2 month old and she's not bad on a leash - she has her moments, but it's definitely not great.

I don't think Pearl will ever wear her harness so much that the hair starts to be rubbed off but even so it would be better than choking her with a choke collar. I would be willing to bet that that particular dog's harness was improperly fitted. Choke collars are completely misused by 99.5% of the people that use them and therefore shouldn't even be on the market and they do absolutely nothing to curb pulling. Please, for the sake of you dog don't ever get one. I'm also pretty sure you're not supposed to discuss such devices here.

Leash Walking/Training?

Hi everyone,

I have my boxer pup Zeus who is 15 weeks now, and he wears his collar all the time and at home when i put the leash on and we walk out in the back yard he does very well with the leash on..minor pulling. He listens pretty well.

But the instant we go out front/or to another location. He goes CRAZY!!!...he pulls constantly...and he's already really strong @ 15 weeks... i cannot imagine him being a year and doing this.

Any suggestions to help my big guy out with leash pulling. What i usually do is stop and stand still before i walk any if he's pulling. But that doesnt even work when we out front/other places.

Looking for advice.
