I'm 28 and going through another long term relationship breakup. I need cheering up! Who's got a story about themselves or someone they know finding relationship, job, or other happiness after the late twenties?

Stories of wonderful triumph (working through school and ending up with dream job) are also very much appreciated :D , as that's what I'm trying to do.

Thanks!

I'll try to tell the short version of the story of my sister. She was a young married mother (17) and had two kids. She divorced when she was in her twenties and went into a kind of depression. After a few failed relationships, she thought she would never meet the right man. (she attracted jerks big time) and then in her early thirties she was introduced to a man who was home visiting on vacation. Over that weekend they fell in love and he left to return to Amsterdam to finish his phd. They kept in touch over the internet and through old fashioned writing. He sent her a ticket to go visit him in amsterdam a few times. They did this for two years until he finished his placement. Then he came home and they got married and the four of them (her two kids too) all relocated to England for his work (palentology) sp (Like Ross on Friends!) They have been there for almost 6 years and are completely happy. They travel Europe together and my sister finally got her dream of being her own boss and opened up her own Gem store across the street from where they live. (My sister just turned 40 and her husband is 36) So keep your head up. We all have our paths that we have to cross before finding the right one!
Take Care and Good Luck!

Well, I was 28 when I met my DH. I was with another guy for 11 years, and we were engaged. I knew deep down we'd never get married, but I didn't want to be alone, either. So I took the chance and left him for DH, and we were married almost 2 years later. So, there IS hope! No way are you "over the hill" or too old to find someone. Everything happens for a reason, and it will happen for you when the time is right!

kinda long

When I was 19 I was dumb enough to go and get married... to this guy I "thought" I loved more than life itself... Well we left work one day and got married... yes I was 19 but we had to live with his mom... My mom was furious... I mean furious... This was the woman that trusted me and treated me like an adult... So we got a house... and everything seemed fine to this dumb 19 yr old... I was going to church every week and thanking God I had a wonderful husband... Then I started having dreams... Reality dreams! I am talking I remember these dreams. I was dreaming he was cheating on me with a girl on the line that I worked on... Man~~ was God ever steering me right... One day I realized I missed my period... I took a preg test and boom positive... I flipped out.. I ran to work to tell him and he was floored... still have these dreams at night though... So 2 weeks went by and I started bleeding... this was on Saturday I miscarried on Monday morning... HE WENT BACK TO DAMN WORK WHILE I WAS AT HOME! So I let God heal my heart and soul and the dreams were getting deeper and deeper... So he came home about 4 weeks after I lost the baby and said he was moving back to his mothers because he said we needed time... So I decided to follow him and see what the )(*&)(& was doing... Yep... he was cheating with the neighbor, who was the girl on the line with me... So I lost 20lbs and decided to join the AF to get away from this hick town I lived in... I did... I lost 20lbs went to the recruiter and said I want out of here ASAP! I did... Then I discovered what the world was made of... Nothing but experiances... I got out of Basic and went to Biloxi Miss... Then 2 weeks into my tech school I GOT AN ASSIGNMENT TO RAMSTEIN GERMANY!!! Pretty cool huh... Got there 2 weeks later met my wonderful husband... we dated for a year got married, had our DD and got Daisy... How wonderful... As for my ex husband... He got remarried and his wife... cheated on him with one of my old ex boyfriends... my old boyfriend got her pregnant... My ex husband is still with her... Girl don't let one bad relationship get you down! More men in the see.. Trust me.. Don't look for them, let em find you! Sorry it was so long.. but remember true love is out there... have patience

this doesn't apply THAT much but its still an inspiring story ;) WARNING its long.

my dad was really rebellious and angry when he was in his late teens, he ran away from home and lived on the street for a long time. he met my mum when he was about 20, and they got married and had me two years later (im 15 now). my mum worked and my dad stayed home with me. they didn't have a car, so they had to walk everywhere (this was in mississauga sp? so there wasn't great public transport like in toronto). so yeah we were basically living in this tiny apartment, barely enough money to feed ourselves. my dad started working, and a couple years later we moved in with my grandparents (dad's parents) in ottawa, my lil brother was born, then two years later my parents bought they're first house. my dad went from barely enough money to feed himself, to BUYING (not renting) his own house in the span of a couple years. and note that MY BROTHER AND I NEVER NOTICED THAT WE WERE POOR. we always got lots of presents at christmas and birthdays, we were never hungry, imagine how much my parents sacrificed for us to never notice what was going on!

so now he was working, and my mum stayed home with us. well he worked so darn hard that now we live in a beautiful home in toronto, my dad has his own company and he's raking in the dough, all due to his own hard work. he has just bought a 61" big screen tv (a big dream of his, lol) and he says that a porche is next :P (we calculated that the tv was about 2% of the cost of a porche, but we can all have dreams eh? after all, they seem to come true) and last summer, my parents sent me to spend a month in guatemala and honduras (not cheap!). also my mum has been attending university for the last three years, which is also NOT CHEAP.

so yeah thats my inspiring story of the year. im very proud of my parents, i can't imagine any better role models than them!!! i hope everything works out for you!! good luck!!

Oh Tina, don't worry.... I'm 29 and believe me, I have had bad relationship, after bad relationship. You just have to pick up the pieces, and jump right back on the horse! I met someone about 4 months ago, and I'm telling you, he came out of nowhere!!! And he's so great... he's so good to me, and he's successful, motivated, and an all around wonderful man. And the funny thing is that I met him when I was least expecting it. I think sometimes if we look too hard, or worry too much, things don't seem to happen... but when you're laying back, taking care of YOU, doing the things that you love to do and that make you happy, is when love strikes... I'd say just enjoy the fact that you're still young and you can do anything you want... just keep truckin through school and life and one of these days... you'll find him.

Good luck to you and cheer up!!!

Thanks everyone! Just what I needed: real life reminders that 5 or 6 or 7 mistakes in a row don't mean that the next one is going to be one. I am actually looking forward to the me time and focusing on school (if my boss ever lets me of probation-new employee 90 days-extended 60 days due to my crankyness.)

Just for clarity, I don't want a relationship right now at all. I just want to figure out exactly what I want, and do that for a while. It is nice to know that happy relationships happen lovicon . It lifts my spirits.

Tina--believe me, 28 is nothing! I'm 33 and still looking for the right boy! I have other friends who have met and married in their early 30's. In fact, most of my friends have done so. My situation is a bit complicated by the fact I prefer to date boys who are of the same religion as I and NC is not exactly a metropolis for meeting such boys!!! I'm not very religious, but the traditions I was raised with are very important.

I have learned so much since I was 28. I am definitely ready to get married now, but I need to find the right boy. There's no way I could ever settle!

Each relationship is such a good learning experience and clues you into what is most important. When you find him, you will know if quickly--at least that's what I expect.

As I suggested in a prior email, find an activity you enjoy and you'll probably meet some guys with similar interests. There's always internet dating, as well--when you are ready! I have dated guys I met online and I have friends who have met and married guys they have met online.

I was 38 years when I met Gunther and we got married a year later; he had a son from his first marriage and he stayed with Gunther & I after he was 13 years old, before that he was with his mother in Quebec. He moved back to B.C. from Quebec as he missed his friends & there weren't any boys his age where they were living. There were a few arguments and temper tantrums at first 'I couldn't tell him what to do as I wasn't his mother!' At least Gunther stood beside me, which was the main thing.
Anyway, we are the best of friends now, he even calls me 'Mum' sometimes.
People say that there is someone out there for us all, believe it! You will find him one day.
