As someone else mentioned, I would definitely recommend getting a signed (preferably notarized also) statement from your neighbor who saw what happened. You never know how this will play out or how far in the future it will "come to a head." Be as detailed as possible and include the date and time it happened. Get a statement now, while the memory of the situation is fresh!

As a side note... once while camping, we had our dogs tied in our campsite. We were sitting in the next campsite with friends. I saw this little girl walking her dashchund. She was walking just outside of Bailey's reach of her tieout. Of course Bailey was going nuts trying to see the girl and her dog. (I'm watching the whole thing. ;) ) Bailey backed up a bit, got down in a play bow, and burst out running, and KEPT ON RUNNING!!! Her tieout broke! I thought the little girl was going to wet her pants.
Of course I immediately went over and got Bailey, and she didn't hurt the little dog.

Best of luck with the situation. I would definitely start keeping notes on what's happening... when the kids are near your property, what they are doing, and the contact you have with the parents and authorities. If you have a running chronology of events, you will be ahead of the game.

This also infuriates me. And this is the 2nd time that I've heard a story like that this week. There is a shelter about a hour away from me that has an adorable boxer mix there. They had rescued it from some kids who threw the dog over the fence to a big mean dog. The dog attacked and the boxer got pretty hurt before anyone came to help. He is doing ok now and is waiting for a home. The amazing thing is that he still likes kids and dogs. The shelter info didn't say that anything happened to the kids who did it. I agree with what everyone else has posted on how to handle this. If it is ignored, then things are just going to get worse. Kids will only do what they are allowed to get away with.

Okay I wasn't going to reply but I have to....

That really makes me mad, first off "umm...hello keep ticking off my dog, you gutsy little brat, the fence is only four feet high, if they wanted to get you they could!!" I know that they would probably lick the kids to death and now i know this may sound awful, but that's how I would portray my dog to those little teasing devils!!" I would also get yourself a big orange and black "Beware of Dogs" sign!!

And if they EVER throw rocks at your dogs again, open the gate and let the dogs out!!! .....no no just kidding that would be bad, but wouldn't you like to see the looks on their faces as the dogs go at them full speed.....if they throw the rocks again, I say HOSE EM!!

Well here's the update. Last night while I was on boxer chat there was a knock at my door I answered It and low and behold there stood Mr. state police officer. They called the cops on me! Officer an I walked the fence line and found no place the dog could have gotten in. The neighbor being nosie as he is came over and told the cop what he saw. Nosie neighbors used to annoy me now I love them:D ! Officer went to pay neighbors a visit and shortly after he got there the phone rings and it's the neighbor calling to apologize through gritted and clenched teeth. Officer must have made them call. Officer also told me he warned them that if anything happened to my dogs he would be back and there would be issues.:D ! As for animal control they have been to their place a few times and at the moment they can do nothing but this might change that:D on top of the three daschunds they also have four wolf hybreds and a chow in a 20 x 15 foot pen with one dog house a husky hooked to a junk car and a peek beagle mix hooked to another car. We live on a dead end country road just six houses and it was a very nice place to live before they moved here. Somehow they got money through an Ins. claim and decided that this looked like a good place to ruin. Everyone elses yard is kept neat and clean mowed and landscaped theirs is landscaped by junk cars and toys and mowed when the farmer down the road hays his fields. .
Hubby called the fence company this morning and they are coming Monday to fence in the fence with five strand electric wire we are buying a camera tomorrow to mount on our roof. I love the hose Idea and the sling shot also:D had also thought about hubbys pellet gun but I'm not that cruel yet. hopefully the electric fence solves part of the problem but my dogs do the same as pawprints and when very excited bicker amoung themselves. so I will have to find a way to stop that also. I hope by having the camera that the parents will keep better control of their kids. Of course they care as much about the kids as they do the dogs as the younger one runs around outside in the winter with no shoes and the neighbor who saw them throw the dog over the fence woke one morning to find the youngest kid in his house wearing just a diaper this was two years ago turns out the mother had left him alone because he was still sleeping and went to drop off her older kid at school when Joey woke up no one was home so he walked to the neighbors in the snow in just a diaper the neighbor called SRS but I don't think any follow up was ever done. So they are just a messed up family anyways you should have to have a licence to have kids or dogs I think sometimes  Thanks for listening and the support this is a great place when you need to blow off steam:D

OMG, I just read this post and all of the replies. I'm just stunned. Some people shouldn't be aloud to breed, or have pets! Where we come from, people like that are referred to as "white trash." Hope I didn't offend anyone with that name, but it truly seems to fit in this sense. Good thing you had a witness and are taking steps to prevent anything like this from happening again. Kids who are mean to animals grow up to be felons!

I'm so glad everything worked out the way it did. I was sitting here trying to think of a way to respond that wouldn't make things worse but still would be satisfying to you. And coming up with nothing!!

You just have to cross your fingers and wait for them to move. I think beefing up the security is a BRILLIANT idea.
