When I was younger I had a Ball Python. I loved to take him out and see people's reactions. Most of the time I got "BUT YOUR A GIRL! YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO LIKE SNAKES!" I don't own any now, my husband would have a cow! But he's from Georgia, and down there, the snakes will kill you. So his solution is kill it before it can get to you! But my kids get into reptiles, geckos & such.

danelle- I completely understand. My husband is from Louisiana and his first comment when he saw my cornsnake was "we kill those things where I'm from, we don't keep them as pets." Fortunately, I got Josie before we started dating and then when we got engaged, I told him that Josie was part of the package. If he wanted me, then she came with me. So, I still have her, but her cage is on my side of the bedroom. When I get her out, he leaves the room. He puts up a big show like he doesn't like her, yet he bought me a new 40-gallon tank for her for a Christmas present last year and he goes and picks up mice for her (he doesn't feed her, I do that). He also looks in her cage and comments on her water, whether I should clean her cage, etc. I don't think he will ever love her like I do, but he sure has become fond of her!!

I also get the comment about being a girl and having a snake.

*LOL* Oh boy does that sound like Mike! He actually held one, once, only once. But it took a little intoxication for him to do that. Only this one was a little gardener snake.
The guy next door found a snake in his backyard and called me out to find out what kind it was. He said, "will it bite? will it bite?" I said well it might, but chances are it will wrap you! It turned out to be a 8 ft albino python. He ended up keeping it and I just enjoy him from a distance

that was really nice of your neighbor to keep an 8-ft snake! I would try intoxication with Scott, but that just might make things worse!

Lots and lots of intoxication!foolicon
But my neighbor got hooked on snakes after that. At one point he had about 10. Ranging from Boas to Balls to King Snakes. Needless to say he was the talk of the neighborhood! The only thing that works better than a boxer (or collie) as a burglar deterant is a house full of snakes!

Hello, everyone! Sorry I've been kind of out of touch, but I'm just finishing up my last semester of college.... graduation is in only 6 days! partyicon

Greg, I'm so sorry to hear about Bugsy... Hope you're still spoiling him terribly. My thoughts are with you.

Danelle, I love your comment about being a girl and how girls aren't "supposed" to like snakes. I've heard that one a time or two myself! My hubby worked in pet stores for many years and says he used to sell more snakes to females than he did males. I also loved what you said about the snakes being a burglar deterrent! :D I don’t have any first-hand experience with that, but we have learned to warn any workers (plumbers, etc.) that go into our basement about our snakes. We had an electrician, who we didn’t think to warn about the snakes, run out of our house one time!!

I haven’t had a chance to find and/or take any pictures to post…. I’ll have some time soon, though!

I am deathly afraid of those snakes! I wanted to share something that is now funny to me. LOL... My oldest daughter thought it would be funny to put a fake snake in moms cabinet, under a glass, with its head sticking out to look me in the face when i opened the door. It scared me so bad I blacked out. When I finally came around, I had both hands gripped on hubby's shirt, bawling my eyes out!! I was shaken up for about a good hour after that incident!!! LOL
So, you please keep those critters locked up tight!!! Thanks! lol!:p

Got Snokes

Hi Ms Kryssie, That had to be a rush. Your lucky your heart didn't stop. Really pet snakes are very mellow, they like to be handled and I like to socialize them with my friends. They are not as bad as people think. Try not to fear pet snakes. Now for wild snakes, depending were you live, I suggest you be careful. My snakes are in seperate 55 gal. tanks and are quite comfortable. They do get out almost everyday for exercise. My dogs are in the kitchen behind the baby gate. I don't believe they would hurt the snakes, but may stomp on them by mistake. wormicon
