Thanks for the advice!

Thanks, Greg. Josie does seem healthy. I have fed her dead mice before and she eats them fine. I have never had a problem with her eating - she is a piggy! And I feed her 1 large mouse a week!

My most recent problem happened over the weekend. I caught our female cat, Tina, on top of the snake's cage three times! Both of the cats are very curious about the snake and they watch her constantly(when she moves around the cage - she is mainly a hider and hides under her logs). Anyway, Tina had pushed down the metal mesh top on Josie's cage. I tried to fix it as best as I can and we now keep the cats out of the bedroom where Josie is when were aren't home. I have got to watch it closely. Josie is only about 4-1/2 feet and cornsnakes are skinny - they don't get wide like other snakes. Ike and Tina both have their claws still (can't stand the thought of getting them declawed) and I think they could really hurt Josie!

Good news, though, we are going to pick up the boxer next weekend. My grandfather-in-law has asked around the area and called many vets about her and no one seems to know anything about her. If the owners do resurface, we will definitely give her back. She isn't fixed (was in heat for the last couple of weeks) and I have no idea if she is housetrained, so we'll see. I have done some research on introducing her to the cats, so hopefully it will go well!

Thanks again for the advice. You were a big help.

Got Snakes

Hi aself, Your welcome for any advise I may have helped you with. We both got to thank bxrlvr, she seems to always help us both. One suggestion you might try on the cats is the old keep your dog of the furniture trick. Get a couple little mouse traps, you set the mouse traps to spring and put them on top of Josie's tank. Then gentley lay newspaper on of the traps. When the cats get on top of the tank, the traps will pop and scare them off. The newspaper is to protect the cats so they don't get caught or hurt. After they get that scare tactic a couple off times, hopefully they won't get on top of the tank anymore. I suggest that you still keep them away while your gone for the saftey of Josie. Use the traps when you are around. You will hear the traps go off if the cats are on top of tank again. Also if one of the cats does get caught you'll be there to help them too. That probalily won't happen because of the paper. Thats greatcool2iconyour getting the rescue Boxer, you'll love him, boxers grow on you real fast. Keep us informed about him. Good Luck. On a sad note I found out last Friday that my 8 year old boxer (Bugsy) is dying from cancer. The vet gave him pills to prelong his life about a month or two. The hardest thing is that he don't realize he has a problem. He is still a very happy and playful dog. The vet said that in a matter of time it will hit him. Of course he gets extra special treatment now. We shared baked chicken yesterday, which for him is a treat because I don't like giving my guys people food unless to give pills or medicine. I now give him 3 different pills 3 times a day. I'm sorry I started to get off the subject. Your new boxer kid?? How old is she and what will her name be?? Will you be taking her to any kind of Obedience school?? If you have an inexpense one in your area you should thing about it. It's great time to spend with her working as a team and you also can socialize her with other dogs and people. Boxer love everybody and need the exposure. I wish you luck with her, I'm sure she'll be the best dog you'll ever have. Good Luck Greg O

No snakes......

but I do have a leopard lizard named Grendel. I purchased him about a month ago. He spends most of his time basking in the light or running around the cage trying to find an escape. Lucas discovered him this weekend and I eventually had to make him leave the room as he started lunging at the glass. I did get a few pics though. I'll attach one of Ben, my son and Lu watching Grendel run around...

So sorry

Greg, I am so sorry to hear about Bugsy. My parents lost a Pekingese and a Collie that way - so fast! That is wonderful that you are spoiling him now with people food. Spoil, spoil, spoil - that is what we did with the collie when we found out. Hopefully he won't be in too much pain.

The newspaper/traps are a great idea. I will get some this week and try them and let you know. I love my kitties, but they can be so bad! Broken vases, eating plants, trying to get to Josie, it never ends. I guess they keep life interesting.

We will probably name the boxer Lucy. She has a Lucy-personality - very bright and happy and so sweet. I will let you all know how the dog-cat intro goes. The cats have been around my parents' German Shepherd a bit and Ike is okay with it, but Tina is hyper and does dumb stuff like charging the dog and hissing. Luckily, the German Shepherd is a big baby who is afraid of everything. Last summer she had him cornered and he was cowering.

You and bxrlvr are my new experts on snakes. you should start charging! ;)
