Got Pet Snakes

Hi Rebels Mom, Yes I handle my guys daily, also it's good for them, it makes them very mellow. I only feed them large feeder rats. Thats all they want. I tried frozen dead rats, because I was told it was safer, but they wouldn't eat the dead rat. All I got out of that was a thawed out stinking rat, :rolleyes:that I had to dispose of. Hope to see your pictures of your guy soon. Nice hearing from you, looking forward to hear from you again.

Hi Rebels Mom, Glad to hear from you again. I think you can put your pictures of your snake and dog kids in your picture gallery. I have my guys on cypress mulch. I believe wood shaving are ok, but maybe someone else has more info on that. I know you can't use cedar mulch because they only have one lung and the cedar mulch will make breathing diffacult. One heat rock would work, they lay on it to digest thier food. Caution I learned on this thread that they may burn themselves on a heat rock. I have one with a heat rock and the other on a water bed heater. I think if they are eating everything it should not be a problem. Mine only eat a large live rat every other week. If their not hungry they don't eat. Hope to hear more from you again

Got Pet Snakes

It's been awhile since I've been here and was wondering how all my fellow snake fanciers have been. My Gloria and Monte are in fine shape, they love this warm weather we have now. They love to be outside and bast in the sun. They both love crawling in the tall green grass. In thier tank were they normally stay I have cypress mulch. The cypress mulch works for them, but they also love the tall grass. In Wisconsin were we live the weather changes daily from very warm to quite cool. So they injoy every minute outside. Hope to hear from some of you about your snake kids.

new snake

I'm new to boxerworld, and I just found this thread. We just bought a 2 month old ball python, named Cujo. He's really sweet. He's still getting used to his new environment so we haven't fed him yet. I really hope he likes dead food, because I don't think I could handle feeding him live things!

Hi there Busbys, First off welcome to the wonderful world of BOXERWORLD. You will love it here, everybody is so helpful. Congradulations on recieving CUJO, he sounds real cool. I tried to give both my Gloria and Monte frozen dead food. Neither one was interested in the meal. It turn out that I was stuck with a now thawed dead rodent that was starting to smell real bad. Thank god for plastic zip lock bags. If you ever seen the commercial for zip lock, they show a full size male lion with a piece of raw meat in the zip lock bag. Then they state thier bag keeps the smell in the bag that even the lion's sensitive nose can't smell it. HaHa. They are right, it kept the smelly dead rodent from stinking up the house. Oh well good luck on feeding Cujo, they say it's safer for your snake to use dead bait. My guys have no trouble winning the food war with large rats. Sometimes the rat may give the snake a bite, but that is all it takes to make the snake end the problem very fast. Hope to hear more about Cujo and his feedings

Hi everybody!
Even though I haven't posted in a while, I had to respond.
I never had a problem with feeding my ball python Sam, live mice/rats. The thing I couldn't understand is how you could feed them pinky mice. Eeeeewwwwwwww! A rat's a rat but those little babies?
