Boxer Insane
My dear sweet Abby is gone. She's no longer in pain. I'm feeling a bit numb right now. We helped her to the bridge this evening. She was diagnosed with lymphoma a month ago and was on steroids to help keep her comfortable. Her body became too weak to fight any longer.
She's a couple months shy of her 13th birthday. I know that's a great age for a boxer, but you are never really ready to let them go. I adopted her from a shelter nearly 7 years ago. She was considered a "senior" at that time (not very "adoptable") and had separation anxiety, so she had been shuffled from home to home and shelter to shelter. She was exactly what I was looking for and I'm so thankful that I could provide her with a forever home. She helped me through so many ups and downs in my life, and for that I'm forever thankful.
Today we did all of her favorite things. This morning we went for a walk (only about a block, which is all she could hande) and sat outside in the sun. In the afternoon we went in a car ride to the park, and on the way home went through the Wendy's drive thru and got a couple of plain hamburgers. She also got some peanut butter, which was one of her favorites. A vet friend of mine came to the house and gave her a very peaceful passing. We were outside in the back yard. She was laying in the grass in the sun. She was very relaxed and in that moment I knew she was ready.
I already miss her more than words can describe. Run free sweet Abby.
