Cubby,
Where do you get the dry shampoo from? It sounds like what I could use. I don't want to bath Rocky often but his flash starts to get yellow. It might help in keeping that to a minimum.
Thanks

I wanted to say there's also the baby-wipe type cloths that are nice when they need a little freshening ;) (both the dry style & baby wipes are available at pet store chains like Petco). Diego keeps himself clean and dislikes mud and water altogether - yippee! (except I wish he'd wade/swim in the water). It's about that time though for his next bath... he's been wrestling/playing alot in the sand at the dog park lately.

About once every 6 months is what I'm going for. Does a swim at the river count? If so, about 2 or 3 baths a month in the summer!:D

Bailey gets a bath twice a week on Saturdays and onWesdays. Because my son Joe2 is allergic to doggie dander.

We moved into a very dog friendly apartment complex and Zeke get a bath once a month and rinsed of when needed. He loves the water and plays in the hose and river when the weather is warmer. His coat is very shiny and healthy

Hi Andie...sorry to take so long to reply. :)

What I use is made by FourPaws Products and is called Instant Dry Shampoo. I get it at SuperPetz or PetsMART. I have seen similar products on www.drsfostersmith.com , but I really like the smell of this stuff. :)

As a professional groomer for 15 years I've learned that frequent bathing is only bad when done incorrectly and with the wrong products.
Human shampoo's are not formulated for dog skin and coats. They suds a lot and are high in detergents. If the product isn't thoroughly rinsed out it will irritate the skin. Most people are not set up like a grooming shop with waist high tubs and high power sprayers, so rinsing can be hard to accomplish. Those sad little hose attachments for faucets and over sized plastic cups for rinsing off soap, I'm sure we'd all agree, leave a lot to be desired.

One thing a lot of owners of short coated breeds forget is that brushing is still important as it distributes the oils on the skin onto the coat and lessens doggy odor and loose hair.

I personally give my dogs baths about every two weeks. Years ago when I had greyhounds, I had dogs that went their whole lives without getting a complete bath. Clean bedding is also important. When the dogs get bathed the bedding they sleep on is changed also. Otherwise what's the point? :D

Thanks Cubby! My next trip to Petsmart I think I am going to have that on my list and try it out. Rocky has a lot of flash and the neck area tends to get yellow. I appreciate you getting back to me..... I think I am going to stick to washing him once a month.
