For those who have spayed bitches....

Hannah in 6 months old in June, so she will be off to be spayed. Mollie's incision was on her side and my current vet says he only does it on the tummy now.

When Mollie was spayed 7yrs ago, the vet said it was better to do the op on the side for some reason that I can't remember. I doubt there's much of a difference, just curious to know if anyone has any comments from their vet about the situation.

I have never heard of this either. My puppy was spayed and the incision was on her tummy. This was done a couple of months ago.

I too have never heard of it done on the side, but am sure there is a reason it was done that way. We used laser surgery for Lexi many years ago and her recovery was a snap! Best of luck.

royal blue Hi, my Fritzi was spayed 3 1/2 years ago and the scar is on her lower tummy. She had to take it easy for a few days then she was back to her wonderful self.

Ali was done about 3 + years ago now & she was done via the tummy. Unless you were really looking you can't even see the scar. :D

Piper is an Aussie, and her incision is on her tummy. She recovered wonderfully. Onya for doing such a good thing for your girl.

I'm in NZ, and I've heard of it done both ways. My vet said they could do it on the side or the tummy, but they prefer the tummy cos its what they usually do. (I had my girl done via the tummy cos then it wouldn't scar for shows). I beleive that at Massey (where they train here) they're taught both ways but most do it from underneath. I also believe the side incision is slightly more old school?
