Thanks Helene and everybody else....

I too thought it must be old school, but I still see many dogs here in Aus that have been spayed via the side. I know Hannah will be done via her tummy as that's how my vet does it.

I'm not sure about "old school". I recently saw a puppy with the incision on the side - which was the first time I'd seen it done that way. I was told it was because the vet was English and that was how they did it there (don't know if that's true for all English vets).
However, I mentioned it to my mother (who is from the UK) and she told me they used to do side incisions here too (New Zealand). I guess it just depends on the vet and how they've been taught...

Aaaaaah, now that you say that I seem to recall hearing a similar thing about UK vets. My primary vet is from the UK, I'll have to ask her about it!

MInx's incision is on her tummy, I have never heard of it being on the side either.:confused:

Well I have learned something new today. I have had many dogs in my life time and now have 2 boxers , but I have never heard they can be spayed on the side. Mine have always been on the tummy.
