Its so sad to post here twice in just a matter of months but here I am... and although I had a year to prepare for Fluff's departure it still isn't easy. I know it shouldn't have been a surprise but despite a large, obvious, and growing tumor she never seemed to "get sick" but that all changed over new years weekend. On Friday night I was doing some cleaning when I heard her get up and vomit. Then she went outside and looked like she was going to throw up again but instead she just fell over and laid in the cold grass. She never loss consciousness but she would not get up. After nearly two hours we finally got her to come in. That night she seemed better but then the next day she was having difficulties again. In the morning after she went potty she wedged herself between our fence and the bushes and collapsed back there. She finally got up and came inside. Then when I offered her breakfast she did not eat. This was TOTALLY out of character for her (Fluffy was a garbage disposal...she ate everything and never let a scrap or crumb linger). Then later that day her tumor swelled up and developed several very large blood blisters that popped and there was a lot of blood. In addition to all of this she had also developed a significant limp in one of her front legs around Christmas time. I think the cancer had spread to her bones. So we made an appointment to have her put to sleep the following day (new years eve morning). That morning when we woke up she actually seemed to be doing better. She ate a good breakfast and went on a walk. I considered cancelling her appointment but the tumor was still swelling and she was still bleeding a lot. I decided it was better for her to be put to rest on a good day then a bad one. She rode to the vet with her head out the window and once there she was given lots of yummy treats. Then the vet gave her a sedative so she was comfortable and snoring when she passed. It was extremely peaceful and pain free.

Fluffy I hope I did right by you. I know you never forgot your first family. It breaks my heart to think of how you waited for them. I hope you finally realized that they didn't deserve you. I want you to know that I tried for a long time to find your perfect person, someone who could work around your quirks, but that person never came (well he did but you bit him and got sent back to me) and that's why you got "stuck" with us. I always felt bad that you were one of four dogs, in a busy house with little kids (I know kids were not your favorite...I suspect that's what got you kicked out of your first place) but we all did our best and believe me you could have ended up somewhere much worse. Anyway I will miss sharing all my snacks with you and your relentless begging. I hope you and Trucker are running free together. Just remember not to bite his ankles. He never really liked it when you did that.

Rest well old girl... enjoy that big buffet in the sky...

You say you tried to find the perfect person for Fluffy, you apparently have not looked in the mirror. She may have put up with the things you say she didn't like because she knew no one could love her better. I am sorry for your loss and I have no doubt you did everything right by her. RIP Fluffy! angelicon

I too agree you did everything right for Fluffy. She loved you and your family knowing you loved her too. Rest in peace now Fluffy and have fun playing again with Trucker.

in reading what you posted about Fluffy .. she was where she was supposed to be .. you accepted her quirks and loved her .. she could not have been in a better place other than your home. Who would have shared all those treats with her, huh? You did! .. Yes, she had her perfect home and family ... she hopefully will meet my Jake who I had put to sleep on Dec. 15th .. I will add him to the Bridge when I can bare to type without crying .. the same was with him .. the fateful day I took him to be put to sleep, he wagged his little nub while walking to the car as his breathing was so labored .. and he thought we were just going for a ride .. it was the ride into his eternity and the ride into my sorrow over having to say goodbye .. I agree in your decision .. take them on a day when they feel better because the next day could be agony for them .. as it is agony now that we are without them .. but they are together and wait for us .. we will go where they are .. You gave Fluffy all she wanted and deserved .. a home, love, treats and acceptance of all her ways .. my Jake will greet her if the fates allow and she can play bite his ankles! .. as my other Boxer always did that to him ..But, Trucker and Fluffy are playfully in each others company .. May they feel the warmth of the hugs of angels .. *sharing your grief .. ~*Carol

Such sad news, There is no doubt in my mind that Fluffy had found her person , why else would she have bitten that person only to try to get back to you.
Good speed sweet girl. I know you are running free at the bridge with Trucker.
