I was just wondering if eating June Bugs was dangerous for the dogs. Gracie May loves them. It seems that every time we go out it is an exercise in the leave it command.

I hope not! Cyrus loves them too. He will ask to go outside just to "hunt" June bugs. I can't tell you how many times he has come in with something in his jowls, and it is one of those gross things!! My cats love 'em too.
(BTW, we have been to Perry Lake!!)

Mine love them too! maximus more than axe, but if i squeal and say "get the bug!" they pounce on it, or are up on the side of the house whining to get it. it is definitely a "drop it, leave it" command practice!! I don't think it would hurt them, just a bit of protein. but please, someone let us know if it is!!!!

lol, your question reminded me of a dog we had years ago, she used to hang around under the bug zapper waiting for the june bugs to fly in, fry, die, and drop. Then she'd eat them. I guess she preferred them cooked! Vet said nothing to worry about as long as the bug zapper was well out of the dog's reach!

Harley hasn't discovered June bugs yet.. but we used to have a cat who would spend a good half hour batting down June bugs and gobbling the up, only to come inside and throw them up in a gooey pile for me...
I hope Harley doesn't develope a tast for them, thats the last thing I need is to be pulling dead wet June bugs out of his jowels! - or having them wiped off on me! ...Yuck!

Here they are about 1/2 inch brown beetles that hide during the day. At night they are attracted to the light. They are completly harmless buggies. They are annoying because they like to fly around erratically and land on clothes and get into hair and you don't realize they are there until they buzz their wings!! I can't stand them!! Cyrus says they are delicious!
