Today was the beginning of lock-down. They both went in their crates. Yesterday, I went and saw Two Towers after work, so my grandfather let the dogs out for me. I came home at 7:30, and this time the clean trash bags, and ripped plastic cups, and plastic baggies were all over the place, and everything that was on the stove (spices), and a few dirty dishes from that morning were on the floor. The dishes were in the sink! My house now smells like lemon pepper. The barrier was still in place, so that means that they are jumping over the crates. And I have the proof...as I was cleaning this mess I stand up, turn around, and there is Mabel standing on Reilly's crate looking at me.
So this morning they each got two PB kongs in their crates, and collars taken off in preparation. Reilly's crate has two ratchet ropes that can stand 1200lbs around the whole crate, plus 2 bungee cords holding the door. And Mabel went in her crate with no problems. I left a radio and light on for company. Wish me luck! I'm going home at lunch to check on them.

Good luck Kelly!! I can't even imagine coming home to what you have had to come home to!!!!!!!!! I would have wanted to sit down and cry too! I hope that your new crating will help! I've haven't attempted to let Kobe stay out of his crate while we're gone, and now I definalty will not!!!

Good luck again!!!!!

Man oh man, I don't envy you. The only advice I have is to consult a "qualified" trainer who can help you to a successful resolution of your dilemna.

Would it be possible to get a trash container to hold the bags, then store it in a room that can be closed to deny Reilly access such as a bathroom, or mud room?

In addition to training Reilly, you've got the possibility that Mabel could pick up Reilly's undesirable actions. After all, they can learn bad habits as well as the good ones.

I realize that some will consider this heresy, but as lovable as Boxers are, they can definitely exceed your level of tolerance. A trainer should be able to help Reilly overcome this problem. Persistance and patience, you're going to need both in abundance. Good luck, Reilly can learn to be a responsible family member.

Until then, it's up to you to remove all temptation, or you are setting him up for failure.

I forgot to mention that the plastic baggies, and new trash bags were in a drawer...behind the barrier of crates. And the spices were in the very back of the stove. And the few dirty dishes were IN the sink. So that means they jumped over these crates, got into the drawer, on the stove, and into the sink, and then, except for the dishes, proceeded to jump back over the crates WITH the baggies, spices, cups. Because all that crap was in my dining room! Oy! I just wanted to crawl into a fetal position. Sometimes I wonder if I'm smart enough to have a dog. Because they seem to be a step ahead of me at ALL times.
