I just read this a little bit ago. Tough one! I personally feel like that is a difficult thing to try and approach the parents with. I don't know if there is a non subtle way to ask someone if they're fighting/abusing their dogs. I also agree that children can misconstrue things especially at such a young age, however on the other hand they can also be the most honest people around. I think I would attempt to investigate a little further if you can. Ultimately it's up to you, you know the child better than any of us do. I guess I really don't have any advice but I hope in the end your able to get it resolved, one way or another and I wish you the best.
