I need help...I work at a daycare and today I worked in the 4 year old class. I was talking to all of the kids about my dogs and they were telling me about theirs. Well, one little boy said that he had a boxer, which of course got my attention. He said that he has boxers and bull dogs and they FIGHT them!! I was astounded. I told him that is NOT what dogs are for and he said his dad said it's "fun"!!! I am still so very ANGRY about this. Who do I call to report this to?

Call animal control and let them know what was said and that it was said by a child and that they really should check it out( most kids dont lie about things like that unless they have seen it) they could always just go by and say they had an call that there might be dog fighting, but dont leave your name or anything. Then again the kid could have just seen a "scuff" between then and thought they were fighting.

I could understand how a 4-year-old could miscommunicate... maybe he saw dogs "fighting" and dad said that no, they were having fun??? Or something... but I would be asking a lot more questions of the 4 year old.. like does he take your dog to fight on purpose? Does he try and make them fight? If you get any indication that this is the case, I wouldn't hesitate calling animal control. Poor dogs, and poor kid for growing up and thinking it's ok.

Definetely call animal control. I was a preschool teacher for 5 years and kids do say the truth. Certainly they can misunderstand but I wouldnt worry about starting crap nobody needs to know you reported them. If it is the truth those dogs need help. Get the childs address and call animal control.

I agree w/ Rocky Hoya. You should report this ASAP. Like was already mentioned, they will not know that it was you. Think about it this way....if the Humane Society checks and finds that everything if fine, great. On the other hand, if it's never reported...who knows what will/could happen. At least you will have the peace of mind that you tried to help.

Also interesting, I read about a conviction of a man in SC that was sentenced to 30 yrs in prison for running a professional dog fighting ring and breeding dogs for fighting. This is the strictest conviction on record! If anyone wants to read more, pm me and I will give you the link.

Good luck and know that you are doing what's right. Isn't this the "time of year" that in theory we are supposed to help our fellow man? As far as I'm concerned, I feel the same way about Boxers and other animals.

If it was me?

I would call ACC. I personally have known children to tell the truth. But at the same time, even not fully understand. The ACC will know what to do and they will also know if the dogs are involved in a fighting ring. They know the signs. I would look out for the dogs and ALSO the childs best interest if there is fighting going on.

I agree...children alot more truthful then we are...and at that age the innocence is prevelant!

I am in agreement with sullivans pop on this one. A couple of well posed questions to the parents of this child would not hurt...try to use your best judgement and SEE for yourself if there is any truth to this childs statement. I also have 3 sons and they are very dramatic in their story telling as well...they also love attention. Now if you do get a bad feeling from the parents once you speak with them or find some solid evidence, then call Animal Control immediately. Good Luck and please keep us updated.

I was a kindergarten teacher for 25 years, and children can be very honest about things. They would tell me who was on drugs in their families, who was in jail, who beat mommy up, etc. They also can mix up something they may have seen. Mention what the child told you to your principal or director and see what they say. You may want to call a conference with the parents, and tell them what was said. Approach this situation very carefully. They may take it out on the child if you say that he said it. You could call the police and tell them about a hint that was given to you about dogfighting. They may want to investigate. There are many ways to handle this. However, do not act without thinking. I wish you the best on your decision.

Totally agree with you Cindy Creel. Kids will tell you they are left alone at home, who beat up their mom, that dad hit mom on the head, so so so much(yes 4 and 3 yr olds) and you cant dismiss a childs words just because they are a child. Most children are very intelligent at 4 and comprehend a lot more than we give them credit for. I also know they can mix things up but it is better to investigate it and not just let it go????? Unfortunately just because it is Christmas time doesnt mean you should look the other way. The idea of driving by and taking a look for yourself sounds good but you might not be able to get a good assesment of the situation like animal control would if they were to investigate the property. Also agree that you should approach things carefully because the parents could take it out on the child.
