Does your boxer wear his collar at home?

I keep their collars on dy=uring the day and take them off just at night just in case they ever got loose and lost someone would be able to call us. I know it isn't likely, but I'm a protective momma.

I keep Boomer's collar on except at bath time and when I brush him. He is way too sneaky for his own good, so the collar stays on the rest of the time, so I can grab him quick, if need be.

My two wear their collars all the time, except bedtime or crate time. I, too, worry that they'd escape without identification, and I like having something to grab onto when I need to get a hold of them....like any time the doorbell rings LOL

Riley only wears his collar on walks and when we go anywhere in the car. I also have a harness for walks that we've used a few times.

We have a fenced yard, and we are almost always outside with him when he's in the yard, but if we have to leave him out there for any amount of time by himself (but never when we're not home) we sometimes put his collar on just in case he decides to find a way out of the fences.

Our vet suggested we make him wear it a little more to let him get used to it, because when he has it on in the house he scratches at it and tries to get to the jingling tags.

Tucker doesn't wear his collar when inside. If he's going out we put his collar on, and if we forget, he sits and won't go out the door until we put it on! It's pretty amazing!

I don't feel he needs to have it on when we're at home, I get into my comfy clothes as soon as I get home, why should he have to wear a collar?

I don't know the statistics but I'd care to wager more dogs are lost because they don't have a collar then because they're wearing one.

I'm not sure a dog getting lost depends on whether it is wearing a collar or not, but maybe you mean not returned to its owner? And, if you can find the statistics, I'd like to see them. The AKC has a 100% success rate with their HomeAgain microchip registration program. I'd wager that's higher than the percent of dogs with collars being returned to their owners (collars can come off, etc.)

I think more relevant statistics would be the percent of dogs with collars returned to their owners vs. the percent of dogs who wear collars 24/7 choking to death.

Both of mine wear their collars (flat buckled) during the day. Like others have pointed out, so that I can grab them quickly if I need to. Usually they come off at night but not always.

I don't leave collars on mine. Pru's dew claws were never removed and I'm always afraid she will get one caught on a collar while playing. I use prong collars anyway and I'm sure those would be very uncomfortable after a while.

both of mine ware two collars they each have a blue buckle collar that has thare id on it and a choker to walk with thare buckles are fairly loose they have them on at all times I'm not takeing any chances of looseing my babys at all! I dont understand why any one would risk it unless your yard is fenced and mine would still ware them. my dartagnan knows how to open screen doors so he lets his self out and I dont have a fenced yard. mine ware it in the bath too I take thare buckles off but they ware thare chokers so I can hold them in the tub...mine try to excape the tub. I dont need a streaking soapy dog running around my carpet.but mine are used to thare collars and barly notice them. I just got dartagnan a 22 inch collar and I got him the dubble nylon he noticed the difference for a day then payed no mind. I will get mine microchiped but they will still ware thare id tags too


with so many dogs in the rescue that if you read thare stories and they were just found wandering the streets with no id .... if they would of had thare collars on they might of been returned .... I love my pups and granted the rescue does a good job of finding homes but I'd want my dogs back! back to me not some adopted family yeah they'd might have a good home but why risk it? I'm sure they have dogs in the rescue that have been thare for what seems like forever to the pup ......

Joey was wearing his collar all the time, but he got the rash on his neck and now he just wears it if he is on the leash, at daycare or at a friends house visiting. My vet told me that she doesn't recomment the nylon collars as they "sweat" and can be irritating on a boxer, as they don't have a thick hair coat. She recommends the rolled leather collars.

Joey has one of those now.
