Does your boxer do this with his/her food?

Bailey does the same thing, but with her it seams like she will take some. And if those few pieces don't taste to her approval, she sort of spits them out, then she will eat what ever is left in her mouth. She is constantly leaving the kitchen a disaster area. And the living room!! Like she is also saving some for later, but never eats it!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm so glad to hear that other boxers do this as well! Not that I'm happy that all you have floors just as dirty as mine, but you know what I mean! Haha :p

And Tom,

That's not the case with Layla either. She always has yogurt stirred in her breakfast (this is daily), and her dinner always has something in it that makes it moist, be it gravy, sauce, canned food, mushed veggies, etc. So I'm not sure what her deal is, but thanks for the input!

Buster does this also, but I don't think he means to...

He'll be eating out of his dish, take a mouthful of food, then wander over to our Boston Terrier's dish and see if perhaps she got steak while he ended up with kibble. He'll carefully scope out the contents of her dish (from a bit of a distance, as she doesn't care for upstart young pups interrupting her meals! :o ) and he always manages to dribble out most of whatever is in his mouth.

He'll bend down to get what fell out, and Maggie will give him a sharp lecture on mealtime manners and chase him away. I can only imagine what she says to him... "You were foolish enough to drop it next to my dish, it is hereby mine! Don't even think about reclaiming it! You may go now." :p

You'd think he'd learn...

Ruby doesn't carry his kibbles around but I think he has a hole in his mouth or something because the area around his bowl would be fill with kibbles. He is just a very very messy eater smashicon.

I find little bits of kibble everywhere. She is so messy! But, she does eventually get around to cleaning it up...sometimes! smashicon

Both my girls do this too. It drives me crazy! Dog food hurts when you step on it! (My girls food is triangle shaped). I have no idea why they do this either. They usually grab a mouthful and spit it out in the livingroom. Sometimes they will spit it out and leave it and come back later or sometimes they will clean up after each other.

Ok, so now I know my Boxers aren't the only goofy ones!

My two trail food around the house too. Sometimes when Dave wakes up he gets this surprised expression on his face, then starts to chew - he thinks some-one has put some goodies in his mouth while he's been asleep!

Joe-Joe is the world's messiest eater......

because of the wry mouth and the tongue thing, so he leaves food all over his feeding area and when he drinks it's even worse. That has never bothered me though. The thing that drives me absolutely nuts, is that after he is done eating, he walks up my couch one way and down the other wiping his mouth on each swipe to clean himself off. Is this a boxer thing or am I lucky enough to have the only guy in the world with this weird habit?

Growing up we had a coon hound who would do this too. My father watched him eat and realized that he was always watching, or trying to watch everything around him as he ate. Maybe a hidden possessiveness about food, or just a curious dog, either way, it nearly stopped when we would put his bowl down and position him behind his bowl with his butt in a corner. It took several feedings to get him to stay standing behind the bowl, that way he ate and watched the room! Even if he was alone in the room, his eyes were always scanning. Just one of his quirks.
