Do you have a raised food dish?

Kailee has a raised food bowl. Although it has helped with the food not getting all over the place, the water is still another story! She can make Niagara Falls come out of that water dish!!
Actually when we adopted Kailee she came with a raised bowl set containing 2 bowls. Buddy never having had such a luxury item, took to it immeidiatly!! So in order to save peace, we made one side of it Buddy's food dish and the other side of it Kailee's food dish. It was so cute to see them eating side by side.
BTW Eric>I love the setup you had made for Ana. She is such a little princess. One day, I hope to get Al inspired enough to try making something similar. I won't mention it this weekend though, between the plumbing job to fix the leak and getting the AC going for us, I don't think this would be the right time to ask.

I bought Casey a raised food dish about 4 months ago at Wal-Mart. She seems to really like it, and most of the mess seems to stay on the stand, but some still gets on the floor and wall. :p I bought the one that stores the food in the bottom and really thought that she would figure it out and tip the whole thing for the food, but that has not happened. I also read somewhere that it helps with bloat.

I bought two smaller sized plastic containers to keep dry kibble in. They fit in my kitchen without looking out of place and are a perfect height for the dogs to eat comfortably. They have a little lip on the lids and that helps to keep the food on top of the containers. I buy frozen lasagna and save the large tinfoil pans. I put Mac and Jazz's water and food in a stainless steel bowl, put it inside the tinfoil pans and set it on top of the food container.
I put the food and water bowls in the tinfoil pans to try to keep the tops of the containers cleaner. My dogs are slobs! They take a mouthful of food and half of it drops in the floor. They will not eat it off the floor either. I swear that Mac gets a mouthful of water and then opens his mouth so it goes all over the floor.

My sister was here for a visit and couldn't believe Jazz & Mac would stand and eat out of the same bowl together at the same time. I told her I used to make each of them a bowl but they always went to one bowl so I decided to let them feast together.

I too read somewhere that a raised bowl helps prevent bloat. So, I went to the pet store to price them...$45!! This is way too expensive for us right now, so I put Zeus' bowl on top of an empty huggies diaper box. The box is now looking kinda cruddy since Zeus is such a messy eater! I think I'll take a drive to Wal-Mart at lunch time to check out their prices.

Although we've already bought quality food & drink bowls, and a custom made table to hold them, I saw a different way to raise bowls in the pet strore recently.
It was a vertical metal bar with splayed legs, something like you see with an artificial Christmas tree. Attached to the bar were two metal rings, opposite each other but joined together. These rings held stainless steel bowls. The rings could be raised or lowered for the dog's size by simply unscrewing a wing nut. It seemed solid and it's flexibility is a plus, but I don't know of anyone who has used this so can't comment on its merits.

Dani's got a raised food dish, although it's really a bit too small. When my son comes home soon, I'll be investigating the raised food dishes, and will hopefully find one for both of them that's the right size.

I don't know how true this is, but I was told that the raised food dish also helps prevent bloat which is common in deep chested dogs; even if that isn't true, it sure looks like it is more comfortable for Libby not having to bend forward so far to eat.
