Do you allow your boxer on the furniture?

Yup, my boys also have free run of it all! Heck, I allowed my drooling, messy children on it, why not my boxer boys? As far as the dog smell, lots of cleaning, Febreeze and laundry, but they are SO worth it all.

You sound like a GREAT Mom! I bet everyone (skin and fur) have a good old time in your house!

We do, but if I had it my way, Juno wouldn't be allowed up! My mom loves snuggling with her... which is a bit comical because our last boxer was completely forbidden from being on furniture.

As long as she just lays down, I don't care. But if she starts bugging to play then I make her get off. We were having a bit of an issue where she was too dependent on laying on the furniture, and so if she wasn't allowed up, she didn't know what to do with herself. But she's better at that, for the most part.

I try and remember to put a blanket over the spot on the couch where Sonia likes to lay. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the back of the couch where she likes to rub her back on it before "plunking" down on the floor.

Febreze works nice, and those small carpet shampoo machines with hose attachment are great.

Boxers are just too darn lovey not to snuggle with them.

I know people say all or nothing for dogs but my 2 know the rules. They have a dog couch in the basement where they stay when we are not home. They are not allowed on any other couch. They have a dog bed by the couch that they love sleeping on. They are allowed in the bed when the bf is working (he is a fire/medic) but when bf is home they have another dog bed upstairs next to the bed. They also like to go sleep in the spare bedrooms. It always looks like we had visitors because they mess up the sheets

For the people who have problems with the dog stinking up/staining the couch - is it mainly drool that causes problems for you guys? Or, the dogs having muddy paws and then jumping on the furniture and tracking mud onto them? Is the smell from the drool, or is it an issue of having a dog come in after running around outside (so, lots of dog smell) and then jumping on the couch?

For us it isn't drool my Boxers don't drool, and they don't ever have muddy paws either, but unless you bathe your dog daily they do get dust and dirt inside their coats and enough time of sitting on the couch that will rub off and "doggie smell" is on every dog and again it will rub off. It would kind of be like sitting on the couch with your shoes on it all the time, your shoes aren't muddy and they may not LOOK dirty but they do have dust and dirt on them. That's part of our reason, secondly is I don't want hair all over where people sit and I'm just one that believes dogs are dogs, mine get good nutritious meals and supplements, the best medical attention, training, love, but they ARE dogs and I do not treat them like human beings because they're not human beings and quite honestly they seem happy to be a dog. No different than I am a human being I am happy being that and I don't want to be treated like a dog or a cat or a horse. There is a line between the animal and the humans in my home and we keep it there. I love my animals dearly, I've cried over them, spent thousands upon thousands on medical bills over them, worked my booty off to make them good animals, but I also do not confuse them with my human child who IS my child and I do not call them my children and they aren't treated as such. I will also say, my son is now allowed on the couch with drinks or food either so there is a standard that we uphold everyone to.

My dogs are allowed on the couch also. I have been putting a blanket down on the cushions so I don't have to wash them every week. Drool gets on the couch but that's okay. It washes right up off the cushions. I like being able to snuggle with them and I know they are more comfortable up there. The only habit I'm trying to break right now is the jumping on couch while playing.. I don't like that so we're trying to work on that behavior. But otherwise, I feel they should be allowed up there if the cats can sleep there too

Boxers and Furniture

We always let our on the couch and just six months ago decided no more. So we no longer let them on the couch. It didnt take as long as we thought it would to get them to learn to stay off. They still get on when we are not home we know because we hear them jump off when we walk in the door .. They think they are sneakier then they are... We got some additional dogs beds and they seem to be happy with that.

We just replaced our couch as well. Not due to the dogs, but it just needed replacing and I'm finding it will need to be replaced again probably sooner than later....When it was just Lilly she sat or cuddled on the couch. With the addition of Luke, they run around the house playing and pounce on the couch...Lilly weighs 70 pounds and Luke is probably at least 50 right now...So I'm wondering how much this couch can endure. It's fabric and we keep quilt throws on the seats and the arm rests are leather. The leather is pretty scratched up now but not torn. If I catch them playing on the couch, they get a firm off and put off. I don't mind them sleeping or laying on the couch, it's the playing.....So we're working on that.

Yep, Riley loves to stretch out on the couch! He even has his own side of the bed. I febreeze the couch/house daily though with a new allergen and lightly scented febreeze and vaccum when necessary. as far as the bed goes..I usually wash the sheets every few days (I did it even before Riley) so it doesnt bother me when he wants to cuddle. I think I enjoy it even more than he does sometimes our trick though is that I have a dark patterned couch so you cant see anything on it anywho. The one leather piece in the house though is a guggenheim couch which he absolutely is not allowed on...if he leaves scratch marks on it while I'm out though its easily waxed off so I dont worry too much about it!

We've had some issues with Buddy and the furniture. He thinks everything is his place! He has a couche, the guest room bed (if it's free) and two majjlis (Arabic type of low sofa) where he can sleep and laze around. The seatee in the reception is a No-No for him - and that's exactly where he wanted to rest - LOL! Having tried different things (including a repellant spray which he loved!) we came up with crushed chili. Lo and behold it worked! One sniff at it and he walked away.

On the rare occasion like in winter we find him there - but the moment one of us approaches he gets up and walkes away with that look on his face ...

Give it a try - it worked with our rascal!
