Do you allow your boxer on the furniture?

Nope. None of our dogs are allowed on the furniture. They have their own pillow and crates that they are allowed on/in but no beds, couches, etc. Never have never will.

I'm with you on this one. Dakota isn't allowed on any furniture. He has two very very nice comfy beds of his own. One in his crate and one in the living room and he seems to be very happy with the way things are. We have let him on the couch maybe a handful of times since we got him he knows that's not his place. And as far as our bed goes I could never do that. I'm very weird about my bed being super clean. I could never sleep in a bed that has dog hair or whatever on it.

My two are allowed to be where ever they want to be. I bought leather sofas just so I didn't have to worry about stains anymore. The leather wipes down easily and the scratches on it add "rustic charm" . I like snuggling with my dogs and I refuse to lay on the floor with them for "snuggle buggin" so thus they are on the furniture with me. :)

At first Rocky was not allowed on the furniture mainly because he couldn't get up there himself. As soon as he got big enough to hop on up - we let him.

He can go on/off the couches as he pleases, he usually will lay on top of the blanket we have on there. His drool stains I can scratch off with my nail after they dry with the microfiber we have. We just got new furniture and so far so good. He is not very destructive - and no holes from anything so far.

Our bed is a different story. He comes to bed with me but is not allowed up until I invite him by patting the bed and saying UP. THen when the hubby comes home nad comes to bed Rocky is kicked off to his doggy bed. Each am after he goes outside to go potty he comes up with us and snuggles for the last hour or so.

So yea, we let him up even though we said we weren't going to. I love the feeling when he hops up and tries to fit his large 60# body on top of my lap like he used to when he was a puppy. yea - it physically hurts sometimes - but it's just so damn cute. I can only imagine when he is full grown what that will be like. He's only 8 months now so yea....

Good luck w/ that decision. I looked into leather and felt leather would scratch more than this microfiber. The lady said it would hold up well and so far so good. I use febreeze and vacuum and have had no problems.

It's so funny whenever my husband gets up from the couch that Zoey prefers she will run and hop on it...he always has to trick her to get off. Like, "who's here?" or "rabbit". She does get the couch a little messy but Clorox wipes are great for spot cleaning. As for the hair, I vacuum our microfiber couches...and that does the trick.

She isn't allowed in bed when hubby is in bed but she is allowed when it's just Zoey & Mommy... :) but on her blanket. I wouldn't have it any other way...I love snuggling with her. I'm pretty much the only one she lays on but that's okay I love the attention. ;)

For the people who have problems with the dog stinking up/staining the couch - is it mainly drool that causes problems for you guys? Or, the dogs having muddy paws and then jumping on the furniture and tracking mud onto them? Is the smell from the drool, or is it an issue of having a dog come in after running around outside (so, lots of dog smell) and then jumping on the couch?

Before we got Sugar and Cain, we thought the same way, but then we had huskies and they shed....A LOT. Now we just put blankets on the couches and wash the comforter on the bed a lot. They go anywhere we do, and I really wouldn't want it any other way now. I do love that snuggle time. They do have their own blankets on the bed but prefer to scrunch them up and use them as pillows, lol.

Heh, on more than one occasion Darwin has approached me when I was sitting on couch and when I got up to see if he was out of water or needed to go out I would turn around and see that instead of following me he had stolen my seat. Little stinker!

Darwin and Olive are allowed on the furniture and beds. When we first got Darwin (my first dog) I said he wouldn't sleep on the bed with us. Didn't even last one night. Oh well!

Tinkerbell isn't allowed on the furniture or in the bedrooms. She has her own bed outside of our bedroom doors and we have big floor pillows to sit on if we want to relax and cuddle with her on the floor. Tink won't even half get on the couch to get a toy if we accidentally throw one up there while playing.
*Side note- Tink did jump up on the couch once, she was running around the house really crazy/excited when we were playing and she had a lot of speed and just lept up there, then had this really surprised look on her face like "oop"....lol it was funny, she got right down.

Good luck with the new furniture.

Three things:
1 I keep Petie vrey clean, including wiping his feet when he comes in from outside and wiping him down about twice a week. Our local pet store carries these neat cleaning towelettes for large dogs that I just love.

2. I keep a throw on the couch.

3. I have low standards for my furniture!;)

Roxy has her favorite spots. The living room microfiber couch at the front window provides her comfort as she stands guard waiting for her family to come home. The leather couch in the family room is her sure favorite as long as she has someone to snuggle with. At 11:00 p.m. Roxy heads off to her crate to wait for her mom and dad to go to bed and as soon as she sees we are going up stairs she joins us to get a good nights sleep in her king size bed.

Given the choice between leather and microfiber, I would go with leather. Just make sure the leather is dyed all the way through.
