Do you allow your boxer on the furniture?

Well Tyson is ruining my couch. I know it's my fault for letting him get on the couch when he was younger, but now that he's all grown up, he causes my couch to smell, sheds like crazy on it, and drools all over it. I love Him to death, but were wanting to get new furniture, so we got to do something! I have him a dog bed, but he prefers the couch. I really hate it cause I like him snuggling up to us when were watching tv. What have some of you done in this situation! Thanks

Let's see...couch stunk big time, so we replaced it. Dogs not allows on couch...but then I said, well, they can be on *me* on the couch. We have three dogs. Not all three could fit. So we tried putting a blanket over it...yeah, right. So for now, we have a baby gate that is in front of the living room when we are not there. But when it's down, they get on the couch. *sighs* That's why craigslist.org exists...cheap furniture, replace often.

We decided before we got our Tyson, that he would only be allowed on the couch or bed when WE said it was ok, and AFTER he earned the privilege, by doing a command or a series of commands once he mastered 1 command. At 1st, we'd randomly catch him on the couch when we came back into the room from doing whatever around the house, but a stern "OFF" command always did the trick.

Now, I can't remember the last time he got on the furniture like that, other than jumping up on the bed if we were playing and running around the house, but it's only for a split second and then he runs off. We have a blanket covering his crate that we use for when he gets on the couch, so he knows when that blanket is on the couch, he can come up, but again, AFTER he does something...

Johann is allowed on the couch. He's completely ruined it, between drooling and chewing. :(

We have a new leather living room set coming in soon. I spent quite a bit of time "scratching" the leather samples at the furniture store....wanting to make sure we picked a sturdy grain.

Hopefully he won't ruin the new couch, it's way to expensive for that to happen. :lol

we have leather - and i keep a matching color " fleece " lap throw over the bottom cushions , and have never had a problem - i hear as soon as i go to work sam sleeps there till i come home for lunch - that room gets a great morning sun - and the wall is all huge windows ! so maybe he wanted a winter tan !

Thanks for the input, I'm looking to buy a new couch, should I go with microfiber or leather? I prefer leather, but I'm worried about him scratching it.

Cami was allowed anywhere she wanted. Never ruined anything or made it smelly.
Her house, her furniture, her bed......

I don't mind Kevin on the couch. I haven't noticed the couch smelling or getting yucky, not sure if that says something about Kevin or something about me

He doesn't shed a lot or drool hardly at all, though (never seen him drool on the couch), and I wipe his paws down often and don't let him get on stuff when he's dirty. The only "issue" we have with the couch is that he *always* takes my spot if I get up, and when I come back he sometimes tries to call my bluff that I will sit on him to get it back. It's not a bluff though, and we have some moments.
