I feel sad today. I am really missing my family a lot (it's been 2 months now since I moved to Colorado from Ohio). Even though I am happy with BF, it feels like there is a hole in my heart because I miss my family. Anyone else ever move far away from their family? Did you go through this, too? Rocky is a little piece of home that is always with me, but I really miss my nieces and nephew.

I went through this too...

When I was 18, I moved from home to join the Air Force...that was in 1996. I went from Wisconsin to Texas (boot camp) to Maryland (tech school) where I met my 1st husband.
From Maryland we went directly to Los Angeles...do not pass go and do not collect $200!!!
I lived in LA until June 2000, when I divorced my 1st hubby and moved home.
My family did come and visit me often (2 xs per year) and I went home about 2 xs per year.
All you can do it rack up those cell phone minutes (call at night when they're free and on weekends).
Also - you might want to think about getting one of those video-conference dealies that go on your computer and get one for you Mom/Pop/sister/brothers/nieces/nephews...not sure how many of those you have!
That way - you can call eachother over your computers and actually see them a couple times a week.
I have every other new-fangled accessory for my computer except that...so I don't know what they're called.
Also - get some friends there...join a local health club/YMCA or take a class at a local college...just 1 so that it gets you out and meeting people.
DO NOT just sit at home and get depressed...that's what I did and I ended up on Zoloft, anti-anxiety medication (it didn't help that my hubby was a jerk at the time) and gaining 30 lbs.
Keep yourself occupied.
I have vacationed in Colorado and know that you can do a LOT of cool stuff...rock climbing, skiing, some cool extreme sports!
Hang in there - you'll be OK eventually...and you always have us on BW to chat w/ !
Good luck!

When I was 9 yrs old my dad moved us to florida away from all of my family. I was very close to my grandma and grandpa and I really missed my cousins alot. All of my dads side of the family lived in fl but I was not that close to them. I remember how sad I was. I made alot of friends in school but it was not the same as being around your family.

I'm sorry you're going through this :-( ...Maybe things will start looking up soon

Thanks you guys.

Me and BF have been going to the rec center near our apartment and working out. It does make me feel better, but it's just hard knowing that I can't just walk down the street to my sister's house or drive 10 minutes to my other sister's house. I can always fly home, but that gets expensive and lately I haven't had a lot of cash to spare (student loans, etc.). It's just not the same only talking to them on the phone. BF's job is here and his daughter (from previous marriage) lives about an hour from here, so moving back to Ohio is really not an option...for now, anyway. *Sigh* I want all the people I love to be in the same place! Or at least a little closer!

When I got married and moved from CA to Colorado, it was rough, not to mention, 11 months later, he moved us to Germany. Talk about tough! But I got a webcam, and even purchased one for my mom and dad. That way I was able to see and talk to them whenever I wanted or they wanted. It was comforting. I hope you can get out to do things. You have to do things for yourself too. Dont think that everything has to be 100% you and him. You guys will get tired of eachother eventually... TRUST me! lol. Even if its going to get a facial, your nails done, etc. Just something for YOU. Colorado is a blast! I miss it there sooo much! So have fun. OH! One thing I did, was I drove around and took pictures. Go to Colorado Springs. Its only about a hour drive from you. There is plenty to see there, Manitu Springs, Garden of the Gods, Memorial Park is a HUGE park where you can take Rocky. You can drive up Cheyenne Mountain towards the Zoo, there is a waterfall attraction, and if you drive further, it will take you up the mountain where it looks over ALL of Colorado Springs... If you run out of things to do then, GO SHOPPING! lol!!

We go to the Springs every other weekend to pick up BF's daughter for the weekend. We have been talking about going to Garden of the Gods and things like that. The problem is, no matter what I do, I still miss my fam. *Sigh* I hope this is just a temporary homesickness and that I get used to it (well as used to being away from them as one can).

When I moved to NM for my new job. I didnt have anyone near me and unfortunately no DBF to help out either. I spent several months moping about feeling sorry for myself. Then, I had had enough. I looked around at my interests and found that my biggest passion was my boxer. So I called the local boxer rescue and offered to volunteer. Now 3 yrs later, I still dont have a DBF, but I hardly notice as much any more. I do have several very good friends that share a common interest (boxer rescue) and plenty to do.

So my recommendation, would be to look at your life, find what you are passionate about then find an organization to volunteer for. :)
And for what it is worth, there is a wonderful boxer rescue in CO, I belong to their yahoo group and there is such a wonderful sense of support with the group. ;) I believe they are an approved rescue from this site: HOBO Boxer Rescue. (if they are not, sorry mods)

How about posting for a boxer playdate in your area. That may be a way to meet people. And I don't know your age group but when my family moved out of state and I was by myself in Pasadena, CA - I joined the Pasadena JC's (ages 21-39). It was like a social/community organization. I met tons of people that way. We have something similar here in Reno called the Active 20/30 Club - which is the same thing. They have monthly socials as well as participating in community events. I don't know how the skiing is in Littleton - but maybe join a ski club - even if you don't ski - they have mixers and parties and stuff - my family used to be members and they had all kinds of things other than skiing. Even if you don't ski - the trips are fun. Church is another good place to meet people. Don't know how religious you are - but it is a good place to start. Boxer rescue would be good - but also the local animal shelter would be good. I hope these suggestions help.

I just moved to Phoenix months ago from Michigan......... I really like it here alot but I miss my family and friends ALOT!!! Sometimes I wish we could move back to Michigan where I know everyone and where everything is, and nothing is unfamiliar. I always feel bad for Duke, he had alot of doggy friends back home that we met up with once a week and everyone was so understanding that it takes him longer to warm up to new dogs but I haven't been able to find him any friends to play with here. He has Duchess now but they have completely different play styles so they don't really play with each other...... I do really miss Michigan though. :(
