Millie is on Canidae All Life Stages mainly. We do 2 meals/day about a cup of dry each time mixed with various canned. She liked the Canidae canned, but right now we do Merrick which she is gobbling up! She has had one can of the Puppy Plate and tonight we're trying the Turkducken.

Splash started out on Blue Buffalo, then we had to switch because he had messy poops and gas all the time. Then we went to Nurto Puppy for Sensitive Stomachs, and now we are on Wellness dry and wet food and treats. It seems so much better for him, he has less gas, shiny coat and normal poops. Lots of carrots, bananas, cheese and he loves peanut butter.

Carter has had Canidae All Life since he was 8 weeks old. I did not transition him from Purina. No stomach problems at all.

[...] Yesterday I followed the dog food analysis link and after lots of review, I think I'll try Fromm's Duck and Sweet Potato. Has anyone tried Fromm's? [...]

We just started feeding Fromm's Whitefish and Potato about a week ago after our local pet store stopped stocking Timberwolf fish formula. (They said they had found out that Timberwolf had been adjusting the formula without telling them and they didn't want to stock until Timberwolf had gotten their act together.)

We add in a spoonful of yogurt and a spoonful of Merrick canned and so far, it seems to be a hit. She didn't have any of the loose stool trouble I had anticipated with a food change, either, which was really a pleasant surprise.

We had Samson on Royal Canin, but noticed that it does have lots of fillers, so we just switched to Canidae and he LOVES the food. He licked the bag before we could open it, he was eager to give it a try. Plus, I have noticed that his stool is much firmer and more compact. We do give him some Alaskan salmon oil for his coat and some plain yogurt for his "gas" issues and I must say the combination has been wonderful.

Definitely do your research, this site has great resources. But all dogs are different and react differently. Some may have allergies to certain meats and certain grains, so if you have a dog who has a sensitive stomach or allergies sometimes a food with one meat source and one grain source would be recommended.

But it is great that you are taking an interest in what your boxer if fed, especially with the food recall that is taking place right now here in the US.

I feed my Roxy (6 month old baby girl boxer) IAMS crunchy food mixed with a very small amount of soft dog food for flavor (various brands.) I did not know that it was not a very good food to feed her until reading this forum but I can't find any posts on the reasons its not good. (aside from any recent recalls)..
I worked for a few vets in the past and they all told me that iams, eukanuba and science diet were the only foods that met the dietary demands of a domesticated dog. They told me raw meats were not suitable and were only good for wild dogs like wolves etc.. and other brands aside from those 3 were junk foods. Now I'm reading all of this and I feel badly that I've been feeding her what I thought was something benefitial for her. I want to give her only the best and now i don't know what that even is. Can anyone tell me why many are saying iams (science diet) etc.. are not great foods? I would appreciate any information so I can decide what to switch her to. Thank you all for reading this and any comments that you reply with. She is 6 months old now and 38-40 lbs currently. I believe she is doing ok so far but i want to keep it that way.

You can do an Internet search on what goes into your dogs food and find lots of info. Here is just one site http://www.api4animals.org/facts?p=359&more=1
to get you started.

I reccomend www.dogfoodanalysis.com It is a great site with much information. Of course these days you also have to keep up to date on all the recalls too. :(

SuperCooper

Cooper came from the breeders on Science Diet Large Breed Puppy, I switched him to Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice. He had always had soft poo so and had grown pretty bored with the chicken by the time he was roughly 6 months old or so. I then switched him to BB fish and sweetpotato. He loved it until I found out that there were still better foods out there that were readily available and around the same price as what I was feeding. I have since switched him to Solid Gold, Wolf Cub and even at 18 months he is still on it. He is doing excellent, very firm poo, great coat and although I had considered switching him to Wolf King and did try it once I believe there is enough of a difference in the formula that it doesn't sit well with his sensitive tummy. He turns his nose up at California Naturals and until recently has been too young for Innova. He has some pretty intense sensitivities to Chicken and definately to Lamb. So we stick with a fish based food for him. He also gets salmon or sardines added to his food as well as eggs and occasionally some brown rice.
