I've seen all the links here on nutritional value of various brands of dog food, but I'm curious what all the other Boxer Parents here prefer to feed their boys and girls. We had Sampson on a steady Merricks diet, and as much as he loved it, he suddenly seemed to grow tired and wouldn't eat when we gave it to him. He's always much preferred canned to dry food, and sometimes I wondered if the Merrick's wasnot too rich for him. We've recently introduced him to Blue Buffalo, and let me tell you, he can't get enough of the stuff. He's a bottomless pit now since we started feeding it to him. Could it be he just really likes it, or perhaps it isn't satisfying him like the Merricks. He's a very little boy for his age (13 months), and maybe 45 pounds. I want to make sure we are giving him the very best.

Not to discourage you from using blue buffalo because every dog reacts differently but Peyton could not handle it.... about two weeks after introducing it to her slowly she kept having accidents in the middle of the night that she had not had before....after talking to several vets we came to the conclusion that it was the blue buffalo or a change in diet.... we went back to the purina that we were using before and the accidents stopped and have not come back.... but then again i have heard and read that there are several dogs who love the food and react well to it....

I feed Koda Cooked chicken mince vegetables rice and pasta, I cook it all up myself so I know what's in it. I was Originally feeding her just raw meat bones etc but she wasn't putting any condition on and now she is in perfect condition still growing and she eats it like it's going out of fashion. I still give her raw bones as a treat (cleans her teeth at the same time) around once a week. Good luck with feeding your dog

My boys are 13 months old and 16 months old and are both 70lbs. I have fed Merrick to my guys as well as Chicken Soup, Wellness, Eagle Pack Holistic, And Canidae. Blue Buffalo is better quality than some but not "The very best" ;) You can research foods at:

Completely Boxer Crazy
Grumpy gets Timberwolf (Dakota Bison) now and she loves it. . . I mix in a tiny bit of the Evangers canned meats for variety and to add moisture. DH laughs at me because between mixing in the canned and adding her fish oil, takes me as long to make Grumpy's breakfast as it does to make ours!
Before this she ate Canidae, which she can't have anymore because of allergies, and Natural Balance Venison Formula. And nutro natural choice (ew, I know, this was before I discovered BW.) We did try Blue Buffalo but she wasn't big on the taste.
Oh, and she gets apple slices and dehydrated sweet potato chews, for snacks, and shredded cheese for training treats.
Spoiled? My girl? Nah.

Both my boys are on Blue Buffalo, and we all love it! I switch every once in awhile from the sweet potatoe, to lamb and rice, to chicken and brown rice.. plus the off can of wet mixed in. I did find that the sweet potatoe gave him soft stools, so I stick with the other two, and boil him some sweet potatoes every once in awhile! Plus he gets raw egg's, banana's, apples, peas and corn, carrots, cantelope, left overs.. etc.

Brandi has mainly been on Canidae. We tried Merricks puppy plate for about 2 mos, but her gas was awful. I put her back on Canidae and she is doing much better. She gets yogurt some mornings and a raw egg another. At lunch and dinner she gets Merrick canned food and sometimes apple slices or peach, banana, carrots etc. I am a bit scared to try another brand since she does so well on Canidae, but I guess we can try another food in a month or so. Whats a good one to rotate to?
