This is such a touchy subject! Previously, my post was removed by the moderator.

The subject itself is not problematic, however when replies to a thread start to become inflammatory or emotive to the point that the thread gets heated, feelings get hurt and people get angry, then the moderators will selectively remove or edit offensive posts or close the thread completely. I did not see your post before it was removed, so I can't answer anything specific about why it was removed.

This *can be* a volatile subject and has in the past, in fact members have been banned based on offensive or intentionally argumentative posts in threads such as ones on this topic.

Foremost, we need to remember that regardless of our personal feelings on issues such as crop/dock, except where it is illegal, it is a personal choice of the dog's guardian and they must be respected for their choice, whether we agree with it or not. Debate is fine - but respect is the key word, we must always remain respectful of other people's views, customs, laws and traditions.

Doyle - this thread has been great, and I see no problems with how it has proceeded. The only Mod intervention was at your request, and that was only for clarification, so it's doing really well. No Worries!

cropped or natural

Nicely put, I know what my opinion is, it is always interesting to explore others, with a respect for others views!

I prefer natural. I love the dog regardless, but the first Boxer I met was natural, and was not til years later til I saw cropped, and it still doesn't look right to me. Just my opinion.

My parents and friends that owned boxers before I got my very own cropped ears, and I loved the look. SO, I got Sayde Lynn's done. Sayde's were standing the day I got them done and never had a problem. It was a piece of cake. And she was gorgeous. Ram I rescued, so he was too old to crop. I LOVE his floppy ears, and he just wouldnt be the same goof-ball that he is without them. I cropped Lexus' ears and regret it to this day. From now on I am going with the floppy look!

cropped or natural

Hera's tail is bobbed but I chose to not have her ears cropped. Somehow, in my mind, the floppy ears seem just more friendly to everybody who runs into her. She seems to be able to be more approachable. Hera's Mom

What can go wrong with cropped ears?

If you don't have an experienced person crop the ears they can cut them too short or just not right. Sometimes the ears won't stand after taping. If they are not cut properly you won't have ears that stand nicely. Plus the care afterwards is alot(depending on the dog). Mandi scratched at hers and had to wear that cone. They bled alittle too probably from her scratching. I didn't get Lexi's done because of the care with Mandi's ( they did turn out beautiful though) plus Mandi probably would have pulled on them when they played.

This is a bit difficult subject..

My boxer is fully natural, long tail and floppy ears.
Cropping ears and docking tail, is illegal in here, and in many european countries.
This brings a problem, especially here in Finland, there are allways people, who want a cropped/docked dog (boxer, dobermann, rotweiler..), and the only reason why, is because they want a scary or tough looking dog :(
Usually they get a dog from Russia, where dogs are definitely not cropped/docked in a professional way, or they buy a cheap dog which are sold in a box, in some market place in Russia

Another thing is, that these dog buyers aren`t probably in anyway capaple of handling a dobermann etc..
I`ve done rescue work, and we had to take 3 dogs in 2 years from a person, who wanted a tough looking dog, but couldn`t handle them, and then took another, because "there was something wrong whit the first one"

Sorry..I just had to let it out..

( By the way, here in Finland was born probably the first stubby tailed boxer..)

Natural definitely - nothing better than watching their ears flop around when they're running about. In the UK it's not allowed anyway.
