cropped or natural

To Cubby's person, I stand corrected about requirements of cropped ears for showing. I didn't know & am very happy that there are the showings of natural ears. Now that I'm educated & "Smarter", perhaps we all can be a bit "Nicer" with our replys?? Hera's Mom

ears

I chose not to crop Haylee's ears. I think it takes away the cuteness. They have so many different expressions that are funny. I think when you crop the ears they look mad or something.
It doesn't really matter I guess. A boxer is a boxer no matter what kind of ears they have!smashicon :D

When we got "charlie" he was six weeks old and we had already decided not to crop. I know that cropped ears are the "natural" way to go for 'showing, and I had thoughts of wanting to do that with him - but - I just didn't want to go through the ear thing as he looked so cute as a puppy and now at nine months old I'm so glad I didn't. He's the biggest, lickingist, loveable baby boy that I could have hoped for. Nothing against those of you that crop but I just love playing with those floppy ears...

Carrie....

"charlie", 9/07/01, brindle with flash, docked and floppy. the boy is filled with boxer love and makes us laugh.
"richard", 11/05/06, tiger cat who tolerates his bro' and gives us lots of love and laughs too...

they're all adorable!

i think any boxer any way is adorable, however, i left jake's ears floppy...i'm not showing him and they are so soft i love to pet them!!! plus...i paid for them and i want them(as i'm sure he does!!!!) There are certain countries in europe that have made it illegal, but not all. i have a feeling it won't be all that long before the US outlaws it as well! but again, they are cute no matter what!!!!

Cubby *is* a person, yes it is my real name and you can blame my mother.

As for the rest of the post, I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Were you somehow offended by my giving you what I thought you would see as good news, that cropping is no longer a strict requirement for conformation in the US and Canada?

Our first Boxer Tyson had the cute floppy ears, I loved them. My husband would have gotten his cropped but he was too old and those floppy ears will always remind me of Tyson who passed a few weeks ago.
Our new puppy Cosmo just got his ears done last week, my husband was very adament on getting them done. I love the look of the cropped ears but at the same time was upset for him and what he went through. He's had no problems at all with the taping and no bleeding. And he acts like he doesn't even care, he pays no attention to them and doesn't even scratch at them.

I belong to a Parenting forum and this debate reminds me of the debat of Circumsing. Which has the same heated discussion.

I voted for the crop look, which I think was traditionally done (at least all the pictures in the books I have of Boxers early on) I was so torn on getting the ears cropped...I called 50 vets to find out their procedures (my financee really thought they looked great with cropped ears...I was flexible) I found a wonderful vet in Indianapolis, Indiana that did laser surgery and all went smooth. Because of the laser there were not any stitches, and we only taped one little piece of tape around the center of the ear so that they wouldn't rest on his head. He didn't require any pain meds & he was romping around 4 hours after the surgery! If you are wanting cropped ears, I would recommend the laser! He looks very handsome & if I could figure out how to put pictures on the site...I have a zillion!

I like both but prefer floppy. Baileys ears hang so nice and are so soft and velvet-like, I never would have touched them. But I would adopt a boxer with ears done - I just wouldn't do it myself.

We lived in Newfoundland (NF) for a time and that province seems to follow a lot of Europe's habits. You're unlikely to find a vet in that province who will do the ears. It's legal in the rest of Canada but it's not done in NF (don't know whether its not "legal", just know that vets there won't do it). So, I grew up being use to the floppy look. I know of people in NF who wanted to show their dog so they would fly to another province with the dog to have the ears done.
