cropped or natural

I searched for 'ears' but (surprisedly) didn't find this question.

It seems that traditionally boxers had cropped ears. Now it seems most are natural. I'm curious to know what the percent is for each type.

Max has natural (floppy) ears.

I have both cropped and floppy on my dogs. Mandi was done and her ears looked like sewed up shoe leather when they were done. The would bleed and she would try to scratch at them. In the end they came out beautiful but I swore I wouldn't do it too my next dog. I'm am pretty sure in Europe you are not allowed to crop ears? Am I right? My husband & I think they look more expressive with natural ears. We love them.
Mandi's look great too!

Was going to crop my new pup cause I liked look, but after seeing his father, I'm staying with the natural look.

Natural For Me

Personally, I feel that it's <<unnecessary>> to crop a dogs ears unless it's medically necessary. When I see photos of puppies with the guaze/tape around their ears and heads, I feel so sorry for them. That's why I would never have any of my dogs ears done. I would however adopt a dog if the ears had already been done. I just would never make the decision to do it. Besides, I like the natural look more anyway. Like I said though, that's just my personal opinion.

My Baby has natural ears. I love his ears and he enjoys me petting them. I would not do the ears...I saw a botched up job once and it made me feel so bad for that dog that I decided that I would never do the ears.

I did not vote because I like both looks. Gidget's ears are natural and that's what I chose. I originally fell in love with this breed partially because of the cropped ears. Someday I hope to have another and I may opt for the cropped look. I for one hope the U.S. does not ban the cropped ear. Not to start a fight or anything, It's a personal decision and we all have that right, so no personal attacks please.

I don't want my question to become a volatile topic!!!

I'm just curious as to what you all have ......cropped or natural...... I don't know if I'm quoting garbage, but I'd wager to say that 50 years ago, the vast majority of boxers were cropped. (does anyone know this to be true?) Does anyone know whether it's not done in Europe? I know I've seen pictures from the 1800s - a boxer club, and they were all cropped (and alot closer to the head too! (and mostly white)). Any show dog I've seen has had cropped ears. Is that a rule?

We got Dylan first and got her ears cropped. But we left Willow and Chloe's natural. I really like both looks, but it was expensive and a pain in the butt when we had Dylan's done.

Personally, I like both looks but my own dogs have always been natural (mainly because I think I would fail them miserably with aftercare  ). I have had cropped fosters and they are beautiful, too. As Buddy'smom would say, I tend to be bi-ear, since I think both looks are magnificent. Since my personal dogs are natural, I voted that way.

I would not wager against you - to the best of my knowledge, virtually all boxers were cropped until recent years. Only recently has cropping become illegal in some countries (including some European countries, certain states in Australia and New Zealand, etc). In North America, it is still legal and a personal choice.

:)
