Simba always has it on , although a leash not all the time she listens so good and when we trained her we had her (finish) and if she ever starts to go where she should not be we say simba finish and every time and I mean every time she will finish..

Finish is, she will go to my left side and sit ... It works great!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I ask that because I live in a house with a tall-fenced yard (at first, no need for a collar because he can´t escape or anything) but I still think the collar is a good idea since it has his ID tag on it and it makes it easier for other people who work with me to move him etc.

The thing is that I feel unfortable when I see him wearing it - he doesn´t scratch it or anything but it seems to me that it somehow bothers him (or me).

For the reasons Thomas Liggin stated Geoffrey only wears his collar when he is out of the house/fenced area. I have heard (and personally seen the results of) too many horror stories for my comfort level to allow Geoff to keep his collar on at all times.

It's easier for us, because the only way how he could "escape" would be if we were out walking and his leash or collar broke. We never allow him free access to the entrance door (we baby-gate it) through which he could sneak away and he is NEVER in the yard unattended, not even for a minute.

He is also microchipped.

Micah only wears his collar if we go for a walk or a ride. He never goes out the front door until he is told it is OK. When can even leave the door open and he will just lay in front of it and see what is going on or enjoy an evening breeze. Micah only wears a harness.

I as well have heard of many accidents with keeping the collars on all of the time. We took Abby over to my brother's house for a play date with his dog, Titan. While playing in the backyard, Abby lost her license and her ID tag, right off her collar. They do not wear them when they are in the backyard because of this. Abby and Baxter only wear their collars when we go out for a walk, rides or any other public place.

Cole only wears his collar outside. When he is in the crate or in the house he goes "nude". Mainly because our place is small, he gets into everything and I just think he is safer.

We are getting a puppy in two weeks and with them playing together I think no collars is the way to go inside the house.

Plus they are both microchipped so if anything ever happened and they some how got outside. The microchip scan would show my address.

We leave the collars on all the time. Bo is an escape artist and can wiggle through, climb over, open doors/gates etc. Fortunately, with the ID on, when he has ended up in"dog jail" as we call it a couple of times, we get a call. He comes great except when he is on the lam or knows he is in trouble. Gracie is already showing great pomise of following in his tracks by knocking down the baby gates in the house alreadt -- at only 6 wks old!

Roxy loves her collar so I only take it off at night when we go to sleep. She gets sooo excited in the morning when I put it back on her again. My apartment is small so there's really not much she could get hooked on with her collar on plus it's easy to watch her.

Lael

Lael always has her collar on, with baths as the exception. I have heard of one too many horror stories where an inside dog without a collar accidentally gets out of the house and bolts away!

Call me paranoid, but I'd rather play it safe. :)
