Mosquitoes may not be around in the winter, but he could have contrated Heartworm a long time ago. It takes quite awhile for the heartworms to become large enough and in enough quanity before they start to cause problems. :(

I would be looking for a second opinion.

I hope Sebastion is feeling better soon.

cfsmith Thank You! That would be great! The more info the better. I did read about the heartworm, guess I wasn't as educated on it or other things like I thought. Thank You all! I just found out some of sabastians brothers-n-sisters have the same problem but they haven't collapsed. His mommy has had a stroke. His daddy seems fine though. Anyway I'll see what the vet has to say tomorrow after the heartworm test and go from there. I'll keep ya all updated.

Hope Sabastian is doing better:)

By the way, is the hospital going to run cardiology tests in addition to the heartworm test tomorrow? And.....did you ask your vet who ran the blood panel for a recommendation to the cardiologist in Oregon?

Good luck tomorrow. Let us know.

No other tests other than the heartworm test will be run tomorrow. I will be asking about the other tests while I'm there. He is going back to the vet he was originally at for the heartworm test. If this vet doesn't have the stuff for to check the heart (I don't know why he wouldn't? wouldn't make no sense!) Then we'll take him to the animal hospital thats a couple towns away from us. I'll probably just get a referal from the animal hospital after they do their tests to see if it's even his heart thats the problem. I think there might be a new problem now. Sabastian has like this knot about the size of a golf ball back by his abdomon. one minute I'll feel it and the next I don't. So I'll have them looking at that to. This is just so frustrating. I just thank God he is acting fine the last couple days. Well a question for ya all! Should I just do the smart thing and just take him to the animal hospital and just have them start all the testing nessasary? or go to the normal vet and just get the heartworm test done for now. Hubby wants just the heartworm test done cause it's only $12 and no other fees. But we go to the animal hospital it's gona be very expensive. My brain is so frazzled I don't know what to do anymore. I don't drive or I woulda already had him to the animal hospital. My sister came up and said sabastian even looks different in the face. He's so sad looking. All I can do right now is talk with you all on here and get idea's and info. which I greatly appreciate. Well I'll quit buggin ya'all and let ya know what we decide,ok.....Thanks!!!!! Bastian says Thank You all!!!!!!!;)

I would check first with the vet and see if he has the equipment to perform the heart tests. If he does not (which I doubt he does, because he would have already done it, if he had), then I would cancel the visit and make one with the animal hospital to complete the battery of tests all within one visit (hopefully it will just take one visit to come up with a diagnosis). And...this would greatly assist you considering your lack transportation.

I know what you are going through. On Dec 28, Emma had a seizure/collapse. We rushed her to the Emergency vets. She had no color, none in her haws or her gums. She was down and wouldn't move.

Since then, she has had bloodwork and some heart x-rays. There seems to be no explanation at this time. If needed we do have The Ohio State University Animal Hospital within an hour away. They have all the equipment for more seroius conditions.

As of this writing, Emma has had no other incidents. (knock on wood). That is what we are waiting on before anything else is done to her.

I hope everyhing turns out wonderfully for you. Healing wishes.

Sandy & beautiful Emma

Update!! Sabastian goes in Sat morn. for a chest x-ray and other tests. These people at the pet hospital knew immediatly what the problem could be. They said it sounds like he has either an enlarged heart or liquid around his heart. Or Both. The lady I was talking to there experienced the same thing with her dog. They can't believe the other vet wouldn't do an x-ray or other testing to find out what was wrong with him. Like my husband said he must be only experienced in emergency basic stuff. Oh well, I'm finally gona find out whats wrong with my buddy! Thank You all sooooo much!!!!!!!Especially you "cfsmith"!!!!!!:) I'll let ya all know how things go sat. or sun. ok...... Thanks Again.

That's wonderful! I'm glad that you found a vet that would try and find out what was wrong. :)
