Today will be a week since Chopper passed-away.

Today will mark a week Chopper passed away (4:00pm eastern 8/18/08).
It still has not sunk in that he is no longer here with me. I'll never forget that day which was basically just like any other day. I got up my usual time for work 4am, I let him go out back to do his thing, I let him in from outback, he came in and did his usual by sitting their waiting with his nub/tail wagging for me to huge him and pat him on the head, and then I told him to go back to his bed which he did everyday. Who new that was going to be the last affection he would generally feel from me. By the time I got home from work that day his life was ending.
I don't know when this pain will end, I don't know when or how to move pass this emptiness I feel with emotional heartache. I do know that I am feeling this the worse in my family, it seems the kids and wife are and have moved on. They won't talk about him, and then again maybe that's their way of dealing with it by moving pass the sorrow.
It has been nice with receiving sympathy cards from his vet and his boarding kennel. It has also helped receiving everyones hart felt sympathy here on boxerworld forums.
I also was shocked to see on this forum 2 other boxers (Brutus and Cash) that passed this month alone with the same killing symptom as to what took my chopper away from me.

I guess this will need to take time, and time I imagine will heel my heartache.

Thanks Again

I know how you feel. I am just numb all the time. I go through the motions of my day but my heart is just constantly hurting. I still cry several times a day but his memories are starting to bring me more laughter than tears. I am hoping that over time I will start to smile and laugh more when I remember my precious baby boy. Each morning I take the dogs for a walk but it is not the same without Brutus. He truly loved going for his daily walks. The girls enjoy it but they don't put as much of their heart into the experience as he did.

The worst part of this for me is that my husband travels and he left on Saturday for a sales meeting. I feel that he is able to get back to normal faster. I am the one that is suffering more because I am the one with the responsibility of going through our daily routines with our other precious babies.

I just lit a candle for Chopper. I understand what you're going through. I lost my boy in February, and it was very, very painful. I still cry every day and miss him very much. Life is not the same anymore since I lost him - he was my best friend and my soulmate. It takes time to accept a new way of life, and the excruciating pain does go away, but I don't think the heartache does, not when you've lost a beloved one that has meant so much to you. Take care, and know that you're not alone.

I feel the same after losing our Petey 9 days ago. Yesterday was better than today. It has rainied all day, gusting a lot, so activity is limited to the house, and that's where there are just so many reminders of Pete.

I called the Internist's office to offer the leftover drugs to a young gal who works there. Her dog had Cushing's like Pete. She seemed surprised I remembered, but informed me her Allie left this world on the 16th, the day we said goodbye to Pete. The tears started again.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are not alone.

Changed Avatar

Updated my avatar (phot gallery) with Chopper's last picture taken which was June 16. He took the picture with his sister. One handsome and the other beautiful, a true beauty and the beast.

We miss him very much.
